I was born in Shelby, North Carolina, and am a proud NC native! I grew up splitting my time between my family in NC, and my family in Florida. The majority of my extended family consists of public school educators, who inspired me to receive my BS in K-8 education at Presbyterian College, in Clinton, SC. My 13 years of teaching were spent primarily in middle school language arts, with the last five at Centennial Campus Middle School here in WCPSS. In 2006, I joined a new department in WCPSS as a Positive Behavior Intervention and Support Coach. In this position, I worked with schools as they developed school-wide systems to support students and their social-emotional learning. I jumped on an incredible opportunity in 2011 at the NC Department of Public Instruction to be the Southwest Area Behavior Consultant, in which I supported all the school systems and charter schools in the southwestern part of the state. From this work, I moved into the state behavior team, as the Communication and Visibility Specialist. While I enjoyed working with educators across North Carolina, it was good to return to WCPSS in 2016 as a Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) Coach. Being a part of the MTSS team gave me the chance to collaborate with the leaders at Green Elementary and I’ve been impressed and excited about the work ever since. I received a Masters in School Administration from Western Carolina University in May, 2017 and was honored to be a recipient of the Outstanding Courageous Leader Award.

My best friends are my husband, Bill; my daughters, Reed, Rudy, and Louise; and my rescue dog, Lucy. Reed is a WCPSS graduate, Rudy is at Garner Magnet High School, and Louise is at Wake Early College of Health Sciences.

I sharpen my saw by running, practicing yoga, reading, and staying connected to my family and friends

I began my career in education as a teacher assistant in WCPSS. Over the last twenty years, I have taught in a variety of educational settings.....from Trivium-based classical schools all the way to Project-Based Learning schools.  Education is a second career for me. I graduated from Montreat College with a major in Accounting and Economics. Being a CPA simply did not feed my soul. Kids do. Since becoming an educator, I've received three graduate degrees (Theology from Southeastern Seminary, Humanities from Duke University and School Administration from UNC).

I live in downtown Raleigh with my husband, Ed and our eight-year old child - an English Golden Retriever named Guinness.  I'm a sports fanatic and a huge Duke fan. And since my hubby attended Penn State and UPENN, I also cheer for those two teams. I love to read........everything from physics, young adult literature, theology all the way to historical fiction. My favorite recreational activity is without a doubt camping and hiking. Each summer, I spend a couple of weeks on the Appalachian Trail. I'd love to hike the whole trail one day. Being on a trail in the woods or on the side of a mountain is my safe space.
