School Messenger

August 6, 2021

Dear Explorer Parents,

This email message is specifically to give information about carpool and yellow bus transportation.  Since it is the second week of school we are working to make the dismissal process as smooth as possible and we need your help in doing so.

Carpool

If you applied for a carpool tag, your child has a small white tag with a number attached to their bookbag.  This means you have been assigned a year long carpool number and DAILY your child will report to or will be directed to the carpool loop for pick up by you or an adult.  These students will not be placed on a yellow school bus. Please make sure you have your hangtag in your car hanging from your mirror daily, as this assists our staff with connecting students with cars. Please work with your child to memorize their carpool number.  They should hear and recognize their number when it is called.

If you applied for a bus--your child will have a bus tag on their bookbag.  A student should not have BOTH tags.  This causes confusion and if we cannot contact you, please will default to placing your child on the bus assignment.  If you do NOT plan on using the yellow bus transportation, you should contact your child’s teacher via TalkingPoints or email and notify them that your child will be carpool ONLY. You should also decline bus transportation here.   We will remove the bus tag to eliminate the possibility of confusion. Your child will only report to carpool daily.

Yellow Bus Transportation

Each school year, parents/guardians must APPLY for yellow bus transportation.  Bus transportation does not roll over each school year.  If you have a rising Kindergarten student and your other children are assigned, your Kindergarten student is not automatically assigned to the bus with your other students.  The parent must complete the bus registration at this WCPSS Transportation site.

Thank you for your flexibility and support of our school.  As we refine our carpool process, wait times will decrease and cars will move more efficiently through the loop.  Additionally, our buses will be able to leave campus on time and report to their stops on time.
