Weekly Principal Message April 12-16, 2021
April 12-16, 2021
Happy Monday Explorers,
It’s the middle of April and we are busy preparing for the beginning of the fourth quarter. Distribution is scheduled for today from 2:00-6:00 and of course, any materials not picked up will be in the front office for pick up by Thursday.
As we work to prepare for the fourth quarter, please be aware of how critical consistent attendance and participation is for students during this time. Teachers are working diligently to motivate students to engage verbally, have their cameras on to engage face to face when appropriate, and to complete assignments. As we close out this very different and eventful school year, we want to maximize the remaining time we have together to support your child to learn and grow.
The Positivity Project character strength this week is Other People Matter- Appreciating the Good in Others. The purpose of these OPM weeks is to regularly remind students and staff that relationships are the key driver in our life satisfaction.
Identifying and appreciating the good in others isn’t always what comes naturally. Often, it’s easier to blame others for our problems or find flaws in others to use as excuses for our own jealousy, bitterness, or resentment. The problem is that this negativity usually leads to problems – for ourselves, for the other person, and for our relationships.
To see the good in others, we must first slow down and take the time to pay attention. Look for the intentions behind people’s words and actions. If you feel slighted, you can use perspective and ask, “Did that person intend to hurt me or did he/she just come across in an awkward manner?” It’s also useful to see the skills and character strengths others possess. Doing so leverages your appreciation of excellence and strengthens your leadership capacity.
"Each of us has a spark of life inside us, and our highest endeavor ought to be to set off that spark in one another."
