November Principal Message

November Principal’s Message

Good evening Explorers,

November is here!  I can’t believe today is November 1st.  Time is flying by and before you know it Thanksgiving Break will be here!

In October we accomplished many things at EGES!  For parents, we were able to have two Pancakes with the Principal Sessions to gather parent input on our guidance program and our SEL implementation.  Thank you for all who attended and took our surveys. As we continue our work on both initiatives we will share out our progress.

Additionally, we hold to our focus on student academic progress.  Parents, EGES has strived for the past years to put a strong focus on the efforts of best instructional practices to support high levels of learning.  Here are a few data points I want to share out:

  • Based on the NC EOG’s we have increased our school achievement by +1.7%, our reading achievement by +5.0%, our reading growth by +11.5%, and our reading performance by +7.0%.  Additionally we have increased our math achievement by 1.1%. While our overall school grade did not change, the work and growth of our students did! They are growing in their foundational skills that support both literacy and math and moving towards proficiency.
  • Student conduct remains a focus for our school.  Thank you in advance for supporting your child by reinforcing common courtesies such as respect for school authority and property.  Each child must be able to listen and follow directions so that they can remain in the classroom to learn content. Our implementation of Capturing Kids Hearts Program continues as we believe that a solid and authentic relationship between the teacher and student is at the heart of high levels of learning.

As we move into November we want you to know that we have a laser-like focus on learning and teaching.  Each teacher and grade level team have developed a plan to move forward into the quarter that emphasizes student engagement, student time on task, and multiple opportunities for students to practice skills in meaningful and relevant ways.  We are excited about the potential of second quarter has for our students!

You can help your child by reinforcing your desire for a good education.  The students who are the most successful in learning are those who try to learn.  This means that your child must put forth effort to engage in learning, put their best effort towards completing assignments with high quality, and who doesn’t give up when faced with a challenge.  We work every day to build up your child and support their own beliefs about what they can accomplish. Want to talk more about ways to support your child at home with learning? Contact us at 919-773-7411 to schedule a meeting, review your child’s academic performance, and identify specific supports that can put into place to benefit your child.

Conferences have been conducted for the past two weeks.  If you have not had your parent-teacher conference please call the school at 919-773-7411 to schedule with your teacher or reach out to your teacher on Dojo.

Questions about our efforts here at school towards school improvement?  Have an idea you want to share? Call the school at 919-7873-7411 to speak with Ms. Anderson or me or email us at or

In closing, I want to come back to the adage, “Together Everyone Achieves More”  or T.E.A.M. Your teachers and Administrative Teams are working diligently to support all children here at school.  We continue to reach out to you in an effort to strengthen relationships and forge solid strong partnerships with you and your family so that we can impact your child significantly.  We know that you are the first teachers of your children and that your influence is great in their lives. By partnering and walking side by side with your child’s teacher, you become a super hero team that can significantly change academic and whole child outcomes.

Thank you for all that you do to support your child.  This message will be uploaded to the school website and sent out on the Class Dojo app.

Explorer Proud,

Mrs. Graf
