Mr. Saunders' Sunday Message (On a Thursday)

Baucom Parents and Guardians,

This is Principal Brian Saunders calling from Baucom Elementary School.  Hopefully many of you know by now that I began at Baucom on October 1st.  These past couple of weeks have been tremendous and I’m really proud to serve as the principal of a school with such a proud tradition.

PTA just completed a highly successful BoosterThon, raising over $25000 for the first round of 70-inch SMART TVs for Baucom that will replace our aging SmartBoards.  PTA organized the effort and then all of you came through in a huge way by collecting pledges from your friends and family members.  On behalf of PTA and the faculty here at Baucom, THANK YOU!

Tuesday we completed a school lockdown drill and Apex Police indicated that we passed with flying colors! Your child’s safety will always be priority number one, both here at Baucom and within Wake County Public Schools. I am very proud of our staff and our students for conducting such a successful drill.  Proper preparation is the key to success.

Thank you to everyone that came out to Chipotle Tuesday night for our PTA Spirit Night.  I was there during the 6 o’clock hour and got to meet several families as the turnout was very strong.

Next week is Red Ribbon Week across the nation and this is a campaign for a drug-free America.  Our School Counselor, Ms. Spencer, and Coach Hosterman organize this for us and the discussions with our Aviators here revolve around being healthy and pledging to remain drug-free during their lifetime.  Each day next week involves a different dress attire so that students are reminded while at school of their pledge.  Monday is Mismatched Clothing Day to kick off what should be another memorable Red Ribbon Week.

Next Wednesday is Book Fair Night in the Media Center, beginning at 6pm.  And, next Friday, the 26th, at 6pm, the PTA is hosting the annual Movie Night with a showing of Despicable Me 3 out on the lawn behind the school.  Please join us for both!

That’s a lot for this first week of messages.  This one is going out on a Thursday evening so I can test the system, but all others after this will be on Sunday evenings to kickoff a new week.

Thank you and keep flying high Aviators!
