Virtual Ligon Chess Club is Back!

Please register for the 2021-2022 chess club using this online form:

Our chess club is sponsored by the Ligon PTA, led by enthusiastic parent volunteers, and is open to all Ligon students who know how to play chess. We meet online on the 1st and 3rd Monday each month (excluding holidays and teacher workdays) from 4:00 – 4:45 pm throughout the school year. Our first meeting will be Monday, Sept. 20. We learn new chess skills and practice them by playing chess on

We will collect an activity fee of $25 per student which will provide each student with a 1 year US Chess membership and a 1 year ChessKid Gold subscription. Financial aid is available. The activity fee also covers ratings fees when we hold our online tournaments.

Our club will play as a team in local US Chess Federation (US Chess) tournaments including the NC Championship. We will also organize our own US Chess-rated tournaments and hope to find other schools to join us in online friendly games during the academic year.
