Weekly Update 10-11-2020

Good Evening Cougars!

This is a message from Principal Jones  This is A week and it is our 9th week in school. 

OCTOBER MAGNET INFORMATION

We are asking parents, students, and teachers to submit a “Shoutout” utilizing the form linked below to express your great experiences at ZGTMMS.  Responses will be selected to share throughout the month of October on all ZGTMMS social media outlets.  OCTOBER GREAT EXPERIENCES

We are also looking for parents to join our Magnet Marketing Team for the 2020-2021 school year. This team will help brainstorm /implement innovative ways to connect and recruit new families at ZGTMMS. If this is something you’d be interested in, please contact Whitney Reynolds at wreynolds@wcpss.net

 

COHORTS  Cohort assignments were sent to all parents last week via voice message, email, and text message.  At the end of the message it states what week your cohort is assigned to on campus learning.  In addition, I attached a link of the district calendar for future planning purposes to include teacher workdays, holidays, and remote learning days.

 

UPCOMING POWERUP DAYS & DISTRICT REMOTE LEARNING DAYS  We will observe Powerup Schedule Friday October 16.  The schedule will be compressed to live sessions 8-12 and student work time 12-3.  The REMOTE LEARNING DAYS where students will not attend live sessions nor be onsite but will be required to check in and complete asynchronous assignments are:  October 28, November 18, December 2, December 16, January 6, & January 13.

 

FACE NIGHT  Please mark your calendar for October 29 which will be our virtual Family Engagement Night. This night you will receive all information regarding Health and Safety practices, protocols, and procedures that students will follow when they begin to rotate onto campus November 9.  It is imperative that whether you are Virtual Academy or Plan B Transition, that you attend as we will also give relevant information to you for all environments.  More information will be shared as we get closer to that date.

 

8th GRADE EARLY COLLEGE & MAGNET APPLICATION  All 8th grade families who did not attend our sessions last week, you may access information related to Magnet and Early College Applications at this link.  https://bit.ly/34LsUvd  ;  https://bit.ly/30SpTs0 Early College Applications begin October 15.  There is also a Virtual Early College Fair October 17.

 

INSTRUCTIONAL PICK-UP DAY  October 23 is a workday and it will be our instructional pick -up day for all grade levels.  You will need the items to complete the next set of modules needed regardless as to either Virtual or Plan B Transition.  More information will be provided soon.

COUGAR AWARDEES  Your child may have been selected by a staff member to receive a Cougar Pride Award!!  They received this award because they exemplified one of our PROWL expectations and their teacher wanted to commend them.  You should receive their certificate in the mail in the next couple of days.  Again, congratulations!

 

OVERDUE LIBRARY NOTICES  Overdue notices for library and media were mailed home.  Please disregard the Chromebook or hotspot that you have checked out.  These should not be returned.  There will be a library book drop off located in front of the school for books to be returned.

CAREER & DEVELOPMENT COORDINATOR ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Workforce Wednesdays - Career Cafes - every Wednesday 12:30-12:50pm

ZGTMMS 6th, 7th and 8th graders thank you for completing your career assessment & google form. Students, please check your email & google classroom area to see if have been invited to a Career Cafe activity. Every Wednesday you have the chance to learn about careers in every pathway. It's My Future Fridays - College & University Tours every Friday 12:30-12:50pm

ZGTMMS 8th graders you are invited each Friday 12:30-12:50 to virtual tour with Mrs. Creech. Here is our tour plan for the year!

EXPECTATIONS

While we continue to move together in the virtual environment, please note that our faculty and staff will provide grace but still hold high expectations for students.  Please ensure that the last 20-30 minutes of each class period that students are utilizing that time to complete assignments and attend small groups to assist with academic needs as designated by their teachers.  While we are unsure as to how long we will be in this environment, note that we are in this together.

 

ASSIGNMENTS

Parents please utilize the Week-at-a-Glance documents in order to have conversations with your students regarding their assignments.  These are posted every three weeks by grade level and elective teachers.  These house a list of assignments in order for you to see what is current and ahead which will assist in making up work or working ahead.  Please click Remote Learning, Launchpad, and then the correct grade level and then the electives button.  Then you will click assignments.  These are slides.  You will see weeks 6-9 on the currently displayed slide.  You can then click the slide to advance and it will show you weeks 3-5.  The direct link is located here: https://sites.google.com/wcpss.net/zmsonline/home.

FOOD DISTRIBUTION

Free Breakfast and Lunch for All Students

Students in all grade levels can receive a free breakfast and lunch from an operating location until December 31*. Please visit https://www.wcpss.net/food for a list of operating sites. Students are not required to visit their assigned school and do not have to be present to receive meals. The curbside meal service will operate Monday through Friday from 10:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Students will receive breakfast and lunch at no cost! No student ID number required to receive meals. *Or until funding is depleted.
