Good evening Cougar Families!

Please join us Tuesday for our PTA meeting.

Interim reports went home Friday.  If you would like to speak with your child’s teachers, please contact them to meet your needs and you can also contact your chlid’s counselor if needed.  We want to ensure that we continue our partnership together to be the best support system for our students’ academic achievement.

High School registration information will be presented by Counselors during ELA classes.  Ms. Laggenbauer and Ms. Grubb's classes will bring home materials Monday March 2nd.  Ms. McCullers' classes will bring home materials Tues March 3rd.  Please review registration forms, sign and have students return to their homeroom teachers the next school day.  All registration forms are due by Wed March 4th.

We are joining PTA to raise funds to support teachers, students, and our school through the Butter Braid fundraiser.  We ask that you please sell these phenomenal and popular bread products between Friday February 28 and Friday March 13.  We ask that the order forms and money be turned in for all orders Friday March 13.  The pick up date for orders will be April 1 from 5pm-7pm.  Again, please assist us to raise funds for our school.

In our continuing efforts to support the well-being of all our students, we will be administering a universal screener of social, emotional & behavioral health. Our district is using the Behavior Intervention Monitoring Assessment System-2 (BIMAS-2) research-based screening tool. We believe this will help all of our students thrive academically by identifying students who may benefit from additional social and emotional support and interventions, much like some students benefit from additional academic support and interventions.

This will not require you or your child to do anything. Your child’s second period teacher will complete a questionnaire two times a year about your child’s actions and emotions displayed in class during a one-week time span.  If you would like to opt out your student would need to return the completed opt out form by Wednesday March 4 to their 2nd period teacher.

Join us for our Family and Community Engagement Night student showcase Thursday March 19.  Please RSVP Dinner RSVP Dinner 6:00-6:30 Student Showcase & Meet the Teacher 6:30-7:30.  Please bring your student with you so that they can showcase to you what they have been working on in all of their classes.  You will also be able to meet their new teachers for this quarter!  We are really excited and cant wait to spend Thursday evening with you.

Our After School Tuesday program began February 4.  Power Hour is an after school enrichment program that will focus on enrichment, acceleration, and intervention in the areas of ELA, Math, and Science.  Power Hour will occur every Tuesday from 3:30-4:30.  Please make sure to complete the commitment form so that your student can participate in this four month program.  More detailed information can be found on our website or you may contact Terrance Hinnant, Assistant Principal.

When you have a moment, please congratulate all faculty, staff, and students as we have earned the 2020 National Magnet School of Excellence Merit Award.  To receive a national merit award, schools must submit a detailed application that then undergoes a rigorous review by a panel of educators. Schools are judged and scored on their demonstrated ability to raise student academic achievement, promote racial and socioeconomic diversity, provide integrated curricula and instruction, and create strong family and community partnerships that enhance the school’s magnet theme. We are truly proud of this honor.

Parents, a few reminders. The school day starts at 8:15 and doors are open to students at 7:45am. Students arriving earlier than 7:45am need to remain in the front of the building and are not supervised by adults. Students arriving after 8:15 are considered tardy and must be checked in by a parent. Carpool is located in the back parking lot not the circle lot in front of the building.  Agendas & schedules will be distributed to students in homebase.

The school day ends at 3:00pm and the staggered dismissal process begins. Walkers and students riding carpool will be dismissed first. Bus riding students will be dismissed once their bus arrives on campus. We are asking for your patience during the first week of school as we work closely with transportation to get kids to and from school safely.  In addition ALL check-outs must occur prior to 2:30 for the entire year.
