Carolina Hurricanes are doing a fitness challenge for Middle School Students.  The challenge is for students to be active for 60 minutes a day, 5x's a week, for one month.  The 60 minutes would be: 20 minutes Cardio, 20 minutes strength training, and 20 minutes free play.   Students and Faculty may log in using their WakeID login to record their scores.  If 1200 minutes of physical activity is recorded in the 4 weeks, they will receive a free ticket to a Carolina Hurricane Game. The school that has the best participation will get a Hurricane field day at their school in the fall.  The start date is 1/24.

The My Energy Kit Challenge is an energy-saving drive that has a goal to save 10 million kilowatt hours worth of energy with the help of all participating schools.  Through this program, the families and staff at our school are invited to sign up for free home energy efficiency kits (“Energy Kits”) to have delivered to your homes.  Duke Energy surveys have been distributed to all ZMS students and need to be returned to their 1st period teachers by next week.  OR To request your FREE kit and credit our school:  Go to MyEnergyKit.org.  Our school also raises funds in this effort by the amount of requests received.

WCPSS bus rider families are now able to use a free bus tracking system called Here Comes the Bus.   Here Comes the Bus translates GPS data into an easy to use customizable map that works on a computer, tablet or smartphone. It allows you to see where the bus is and how close it is to your stop.  You can sign up for Here Comes the Bus at https://herecomesthebus.com/getting-started/.  You will need the district code and your student’s ID number to sign up. The WCPSS school code is 67500. For your smartphone or tablet, download the Here Comes the Bus app from the App Store or Google Play.

WCPSS created an invaluable new resource for your child to ensure that he or she is successful in Math 1! The NC Math 1 Student Support Site is designed for you to help your child stay on track while offering you resources to help him or her with homework.   We encourage you to take advantage of the NC Math 1 Student Support Site via your student’s login to our Canvas website. Once you have logged in to Canvas, click on the tile that says "NC Math 1 Student Support Site" to access the support resources.   Detailed information was sent home with all Math I students.

This is just a reminder regarding carpool.  Please drop off students prior to 8:15 am in carpool located at the back of the school.  After 8:15am students are considered tardy and should be checked in at the main office with a parent.  All check-outs should conclude before 2:30pm.   Please do not drop off students in front of the cafeteria or by the trailers for safety reasons.

Have a great week COUGARS!

Yours,

Candis Jones, Principal
