Week of September 11, 2023
Happy Sunday Wakelon Families!
This is Mrs. Nealy, your Wakelon Principal with our weekly updates! We had another amazing week at Wakelon, even with the extreme heat! We hope that you are having a wonderful weekend! Here are the updates for the Week of September 11.
Carpool Tags: Please remember to have your carpool tag visible in your car. We must see the car tag number. This helps Principal Nealy speed up the line when the number is easily available. Please get multiple passes for all of your vehicles so that you always have a visible tag. If you need extra, please see Mrs. Carter, our receptionist. Thank you for your cooperation!
Picture Day- Picture day is approaching! Picture forms were sent home this week in your child’s folder. Each student will have their picture taken on September 12. The Fall pictures will be used for the yearbook. You can preorder pictures online at mylifetouch.com and use the code: EVTKXXQHP. If you are sending cash, please make sure you send the exact change. The photographers are not able to distribute cash back on picture day. We look forward to students having an opportunity to show their best Wakelon smiles!
Walkers- Parents, please understand that walking families DO NOT have carpool tags. If you are a carpool family please do not come to the Walkers’ door. Only our daily walkers are leaving from the Walkers Door. All carpool families are expected to wait in the carpool line. We will not call any student’s number for any reason. If you do not wish to wait in our line, you will be asked to report to the front office to sign your student out with Mrs. Carter. Please speak with Principal Nealy if you have any questions. Thank you so much for your understanding.
National Hispanic Heritage Month: National Hispanic Heritage celebrations are taking place at school during the month of September. Our students have been participating in learning and daily trivia. We will also have a Read Aloud Day which will consist of our WCPSS and Wakelon Community members reading their favorite books (appropriate and approved) to our students.
National Attendance Spirit Week: September is Attendance Awareness month! Good attendance is directly linked to student success. Missing 10% (or more) of school days is considered chronic absenteeism and can result in academic struggles for students. Please help us support your students by ensuring they are in school all day every day unless they are sick. If your student has to miss school, please send in a note that either you have written or a note from the doctor. Please click this link to see some of the activities our students will be participating in. Spirit Week will take place the week of September 18. Please click here to see the daily ways your child can show their school spirit!
After School YMCA at Wakelon: If you have an interest in having your child attend the YMCA afterschool program please reach out to Principal Nealy. While we do not currently have this program at our school, we are looking to see if there is an interest. Please click here to learn more about this opportunity.
Spanish Course for Grades 3-5: In Spanish this week (September 11, 2023): We will continue to build community, complete class social contracts and move into Spanish content. This week's content focus will be greetings, with an introduction to feelings/emotions. During each class, students can plan to practice listening, speaking, reading and writing in Spanish
PTA: We are excited to announce that our new Wakelon Spirit Wear is available and ready for purchase. Please click here to see our new Wakelon Swag! Please order at the address provided. Due date for all sales is September 15. We are still in need of a PTA Secretary. Please reach out to Principal Nealy if you have an interest in serving on our School PTA Board.
Open House: Open House will take place on Thursday, September 21 from 5:00-6:30. The purpose of this Fall Open House is for families to learn more about Wakelon and about their child’s individual classroom. All parents are invited to meet with Principal Nealy in our school’s cafeteria from 5:00-5:30 where you will learn more about our school! You will also hear from the PTA president at that time. At 5:30, families will be released to report to their students' classrooms. This is an opportunity for parents to learn more about what’s happening in class up to this point. The fall book-fair will be open during this time as well. Families will have the opportunity to shop during Open House.
Enjoy your Weekend! We look forward to seeing our Bulldog students on Monday!
Kind Regards,
Principal Nealy
