Week of September 5, 2023

Happy Friday Wakelon Families!

This is Mrs. Nealy, your Wakelon Principal with our weekly updates!  What an epic first week of school!  Our students and staff did an outstanding job returning back to school.  This week was full of lots of engagement, and learning opportunities.  We also now know to “expect the unexpected” with regards to the school closure that took place on Thursday.

I am sending the message prior to Sunday so that you can be better prepared for the week ahead.  Please remember that there is no school on Monday, September 4 for the Labor Day holiday. We hope you all enjoy this holiday weekend and please be safe!

We are so excited and looking forward to welcoming all of our kindergarten students to campus on Tuesday, September 5.  Parents, we know that this day may not be easy for you all but we promise you, your child is in great hands with our amazing kindergarten teachers and Wakelon staff.

Please remember that we will still experience some bus delays.  We appreciate your patience with this and please know that WCPSS is working hard to get all students to school in a safe, orderly and timely manner.  We will continue to post daily bus updates on the AM bus arrival and PM bus departures board for families to follow. We encourage you to download the Here Comes the Bus App to track the status of your student's bus.

Carpool ran as expected for the first week of school.  It did get better each day!  Please remember to have your carpool tag visible in your car.  We must see the car tag number.  That is the number we call so that your student can report outside. If your tag is not visible or  you forgot it, you will be told to park your car and to go inside to check your student out.  Please get multiple passes for all of your vehicles so that you always have a visible tag. Thank you for your cooperation!

Picture Day- Picture day is approaching! Picture forms were sent home this week in your child’s folder. Each student will have their picture taken on September 12. The Fall pictures will be used for the yearbook.   You can preorder pictures online at  mylifetouch.com and use the code: EVTKXXQHP. If you are sending cash, please make sure you send the exact change. The photographers are not able to distribute cash back on picture day. We look forward to students having an opportunity to show their best Wakelon smiles!

Walkers- Walking students must be escorted by a parent to and from school. If you will be walking your child home after school, you must wait at the door to the far right of the front parking lot.  All walkers will be dismissed from there at 3:45.  It’s important that you are there at 3:45.  If not, you will have to go to the front desk to have your child signed out.  Our carpool staff will not be able to assist walking families as we are focusing on the safety of all kids who are waiting in the carpool.

Lunch- Please be sure to provide your child with lunch funds if they will be eating school lunch.  king forward to this staggered entry and making many connections with our new Wakelon Bulldogs.

Spanish Course for Grades 3-5 We are super excited to announce that we will be offering a Beginners Spanish course to all third, fourth, and fifth grade students.  This is going to be an amazing opportunity for all of our 3-5 students.  This class will start on September 5.    #watchusgrow

PTA:   We are excited to announce that our new Wakelon Spirit Wear is available and ready for purchase.  Please click here to see our new Wakelon Swag!  Please order at the address provided.  Due date for all sales is September 15.

New Visitor Check-In- To continue to provide safe learning environments, all schools have upgraded their visitor check-in system to a district-wide Visitor Management System. The new system will verify all school visitors and check the Sex Offender Registry for potential matches. View details of what to expect when visiting Wakelon.  All visitors will need to have a valid ID for the security check-in.

Enjoy your Labor Day Weekend!  We look forward to seeing our Bulldog students on Tuesday!

Kind Regards,

Principal Nealy
