Week of May 15, 2023

Happy Sunday, Wakelon Families! This is your Principal, Mrs. Nealy, with your weekly update.  I hope that you all are off to a great start with your Sunday!  I would like to send a special Happy Mother’s Day to all of the moms, grandmothers, and caregivers.  Thank you so much for all that you do for your children.  Have a special Mother’s Day!

Asian Pacific Islander and Jewish American Heritage Month is celebrated throughout the month of May.  We will be highlighting all students who are members of these two groups.

Student Survey: In the spring, students in grades 5-12 are asked to complete the annual WCPSS Student Engagement Survey. Your child will be given an opportunity to complete this survey during the school day next week.  Please click here to learn more about this survey.  Our fifth-grade students will participate in this survey this week.   If you do not want your child to participate in this survey, please let me (Mrs. Nealy) know.

Student Scouts: We are asking all students who are members of Boys and Girls Scouts to participate in leading us in the Pledge of Allegiance at our End of Year Awards Recognitions and Fifth-Grade Farewell Ceremony.   If your child is a scout, please email Mrs. Nealy and let me know if you would like for your child to participate in leading us with the pledge of allegiance.  Thank you!

Rising Kindergarten: If you have a child who will be in Kindergarten, we invite you to attend our Kindergarten Information Session on May 22 at 10:00 am.  This is not an orientation.  Parents will be invited to our school’s Media Center to learn more about the logistics of Kindergarten and Wakelon.  We encourage all rising Kindergarten families to attend.

Lunch Support: We are in need of your support in the cafeteria. If you have time in your day to come and lend a hand during our lunch hours, please consider supporting us. We are asking all parents/guardians approved through the WCPSS volunteer system to come and support us anytime from 11:00-1:30.  Support will consist of helping monitor our students so that our teachers can have a duty-free lunch.  Please click this link to sign up.
