Week of May 1, 2023

Happy Sunday, Wakelon Families! This is your Principal, Mrs. Nealy, with your weekly update.  I hope that you all are off to a great start with your Sunday!  This week is Teacher’s Appreciation Week.  Our Wakelon Teachers work extremely hard to make school more than just a place to learn.  Please join us in helping celebrate our teachers this week to let them know how much we appreciate them!

PTA: Please read the  Wakelon PTA News for the month of May.  Thank you!

Teacher Appreciation Spirit Week:

Monday-Dress up like a teacher!

Tuesday- Wear your favorite sports team attire!

Wednesday- Wear your teacher’s favorite color (teachers will share)!

Thursday- Wear your Wakelon School Shirts!

Friday- Dress Up Like a Super Hero!

Instructional Time:  Parents please exhaust all efforts to get your child to school on time.  We also ask that you try to refrain from picking your child up before the 3:45 bell.  When they get here late and leave early, they are missing class instruction.  Lost instructional time adds up and causes your child to not excel in school.  They must be present to learn.  Also, please remember, we will not let students be checked out after 3:15.  If you have doctor's appointments, please make time to get here before 3:15.  Thank you!

Lunch Support: We are in need of your support in the cafeteria. If you have time in your day to come and lend a hand during our lunch hours, we ask that you please consider supporting us. We are asking all parents/guardians who have been approved through the WCPSS volunteer system to come and support us anytime from 11:00-1:30.  Support will consist of helping monitor our students so that our teachers can have a duty-free lunch.  Please click this link to sign up.

WAKE Up and Read:  It's an exciting time at Wakelon! It is the WAKE Up and Read Annual Book Distribution from May 16 - 17. All students will have the opportunity to select several books, at no cost, to help build their home library and read over the summer! This is a great opportunity to come into school and support students as they select books. Sign up here to help. bit.ly/WUARWakelon23 (All volunteers must be approved through the WCPSS Volunteer system.  Please see our receptionist, Mrs. Carter if you would like to sign up).

Wakelon’s Unified Event will take place on Thursday from 10:00-11:00. We had to reschedule this event due to the rain that we had last week.  This event will be amazing and will set the tone for what it truly means to be “ALL FOR ONE”!  We are overly excited to cheer for our ECS friends while they show us their excellent sportsmanship!  Please make time to speak with your students about disability awareness, respect, and inclusivity. This event will be amazing!

Panorama Survey Thank you all so much for providing us with feedback.  If you have not completed the Panorama Survey yet, it is not too late.  We are asking for your input on how we can improve and strengthen our relationship with you. Please click here to complete the survey.  This survey will close on May 18.  Thank you so much for your participation!
