Weekly Message: September 19, 2022

Happy Sunday, Wakelon Families! This is your Principal, Mrs. Nealy, with your weekly Sunday update. Here are a few announcements and points of information for the upcoming week.

This week we have had a full week of teaching and learning.  Students are settling into a routine and starting to build more independence and academic skills in their new grade level. At this point, kindergarten students are expected to walk to class on their own.  We have adults on duty to help our younger students.

School Vision:

We have updated our school vision.  We are excited to say moving forward, we want all stakeholders of the Wakelon Elementary School community to know our vision.  The updated vision is: Wakelon Elementary School is committed to embracing diversity and encouraging success for ALL.

National Hispanic Heritage:

National Hispanic Heritage celebrations began on September 15.  Our students have been participating in daily learning and trivia.  We will also have a Read Aloud Day which will consist of our WCPSS and Wakelon Community members reading their favorite books (appropriate and approved) to our students.

National Attendance Spirit Week:

September is Attendance Awareness month! Good attendance is directly linked to student success. Missing 10% (or more) of school days is considered chronic absenteeism and can result in academic struggles for students. Please help us support your students by ensuring they are in school all day every day unless they are sick. If your student has to miss school, please send in a note that either you have written or a note from the doctor.

WES will celebrate attendance awareness with a spirit week this week!

  • Monday: Hat Day, Head for success by arriving at school on time!

  • Tuesday: Good Attendance leads to bright futures! Wear your favorite bright color!

  • Wednesday: Wacky Tacky Day. There is nothing tacky about being on time. Wear tacky mismatched clothes!

  • Thursday: We are a team we stay all day every day!

  • Friday: Blue and Red Bulldog Pride Day!

Please sign up to support our school store!

" is an online shopping mall where over 400 nationally-known online merchants have agreed to give a percentage of sales to K-12 schools. Companies like,, and Best Buy participate. SchoolStore is a great way to support your school when you shop at your favorite online merchants."

SchoolStore will reward students according to the number of purchases.

School Book Fair:

Our Fall book fair will take place October 3-October 7.  Please view the following link to learn more about this amazing opportunity for our students.

We are all so thankful that our students who ride the yellow bus now have a consistent bus driver! This should help with some of the daily congestion that we have been experiencing in our carpool lane.  Daily Carpool families are expected to have their carpool numbers visible as they come through in the afternoon.  Please also help us in making sure that your student(s) know their number. In the afternoon, we call our students by their number.  If they do not know their number, it will slow down the carpool process.  Thank you in advance for assisting us with this.
