Weekly Message: August 1, 2022

Greetings Parents and Guardians, July 27th, 2022

It’s hard to believe, but it is that time of the year when we begin to wrap up our summer fun and begin to shift our focus toward preparing for another school year!  We hope you have had an enjoyable summer!  We are looking forward to seeing all of you for another exciting year at Wakelon!

We are continuously working to develop high expectations for teaching, learning, and most importantly the support for our students as we begin the 2022-2023 academic school year.  Starting on August 29, your child will be back to a regular schedule, reconnecting with friends, spending time in classes, and getting to know new teachers.

We look forward to welcoming our new families and hope that everyone can join us on Wednesday, August 24th for our Welcome Back to School Meet the Teacher event.  This will be a staggering event.  We want to make sure that we are providing our students and families with a structured and safe space to meet and greet their teachers.  Families will attend by the first initial of their last name.  Families with children who have multiple last names can choose one time to attend for all students.

Last Name that begins with letters:

Time to attend:

A-I

2:00 PM-3:00 PM

J-Q

3:30 PM-4:30 PM

R-Z

5:00 PM- 6:00 PM

At Wakelon, we will continue to focus on providing high-quality, rigorous, and meaningful instruction throughout the curriculum.  Our teachers will continue to utilize research-based best practices and analyze academic data to determine the present level of performance and set goals for improvement and growth.  We believe that when all students leave Wakelon after 5th grade they should be prepared for middle school and on track to graduate from high school college/career ready.  We take this challenge very seriously because we are aware that it starts with us!

We believe that with our continued focus on learning and teaching, our students will continue to show academic growth and success.  We wanted to share this information with you because we believe that you play an important role in your child’s education and can help promote their ability to read and learn at home.

We are looking forward to an amazing year and have many exciting things planned for our students.  Please take an active role in your child’s education and we welcome you here at school anytime you may be able to volunteer!

Educationally yours,

Mrs. Nealy

Principal of Wakelon Elementary
