Ready, Set, App! is a mobile app-building competition sponsored by Lenovo and presented by the NC Business Committee for Education.
High school students are challenged to create an original app to solve a problem in their school or community. This competition is open to all NC high schoolers and serves as a great opportunity for students to develop skills in design thinking, by having them use their creativity to find innovative solutions to problems in their community.
Each year Ready, Set, App! employs high school interns to act as peer mentors to the student teams in this competition. These interns will work alongside the teams to offer support as they navigate through the competition. This support can be technical, like helping to troubleshoot code or map out designs, or it can be general, such as advising on time management and delegating workloads. We are looking for students with both the technical and interpersonal skills to be successful in this position.
This is a paid internship, and the work is remote. It’s a great opportunity for students to get real work and leadership experience. We encourage all interested students to apply. To be eligible you must be a 9th – 12th grade student enrolled in an NC high school. The internship will run through both the Fall 2024 and Spring 2025 semesters.
Applications are open now and close Monday, October 21st, 2024, at 11:59 PM.
For any questions, please reach out to Ciera Tucker, NCBCE Program Manager, at ciera.tucker@nc.gov.
ACE Mentor Program (Architecture, Construction and Engineering) Students interested in pursuing a career in one of these fields should join the FREE Mentorship Program, ACE of RDU. Professional architects, contractors and engineers work with students on a project to learn about Architecture, Construction, and Engineering. (ACE reports that Universities are excited to see on student applications that students are involved in the ACE Mentor Program. College admission personnel are telling ACE that students who come to them with this experience are much more focused, oftentimes much more mature and perform well in their classes.)
