The Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test is a program cosponsored by the College Board and National Merit Scholarship Corporation. It's a standardized test that provides firsthand practice for the SAT®. It measures critical reading skills, math problem-solving skills, and writing skills.  As part of the SAT® Suite of Assessments, itʼs designed to help prepare students for the SAT, college, and careers. Students who take the PSAT/NMSQT in 11th grade may enter the National Merit® Scholarship Program, an academic competition for recognition and scholarships. In addition, personalized SAT Practice on Khan Academy® is FREE for all students who take the PSAT/NMSQT and is a great way to prepare for the SAT. 


The Wake County Public School System will offer the PSAT on Wednesday, October 12th.  Students in grades 9-11 are eligible to sign up for the PSAT.  There is a $18 fee for taking the test.  In order to register for the test at Holly Springs High School, please complete the online registration form at  AND submit your payment through Online School Payments at  All registrations and payments must be completed by Monday, September 12th. Any JUNIOR with a GPA of 4.367 qualifies to take the PSAT for free!  Please note that students who take the PSAT will miss periods 1-3 on the day of the test.  Students will be responsible for all missed work during the test.
