DRMS' Principal Message
Hello, this is Kristen J Faircloth, principal at Durant Road Middle School, with your March 1, 2020 weekly message.
March is National Athletic Training Month, a time to celebrate the positive impact that ATs have on work, life and sport. National Athletic Training Month is held every March in order to spread awareness about the important work of athletic trainers. Please help us celebrate Ms. Trina Cicco, DRMS Athletic Trainer, this month! Ms. Cicco is one of two middle school certified Athletic Trainers in the county. We are fortunate Ms. Cicco is a member of the DRMS family.
We are excited to partner with Step it Up! for our spring fundraiser this year. Your students will bring home information on Monday about how they can win great prizes while supporting DRMS. Parent volunteers are crucial in making this fundraiser a success – click here to find out how you can help!
Volunteers are also still needed for the Reality of Money, an 8th-grade money management program on March 5. Please check out the Signup Genius and help if you can – especially in sessions 2 and 3.
Our outstanding custodian, Mr. Rene Rosas, has been nominated as a 2020 School Superhero. Superhero nominees who get the most votes can win $10,000 for themselves and $10,000 for their school! Mr. Rene is so deserving of this award – please take a minute and vote. You can vote once per day, per device, until March 15, 2020.
Spring Dance-hosted by the Durant Road Middle School Performing Arts Boosters:
"The City Never Sleeps" at our spring dance which will take place on Friday, March 13, 2020 in the cafeteria. Sixth grade dance will take place at 3:45 PM-5:15 PM and 7th & 8th grade dance will be from 6:00 PM-7:30 PM. Kona Ice, pizza, candy, and drinks will be sold. Dance tickets cost $5 and will go on sale during all lunches March 6-13. No tickets will be sold at the door. Students should bring signed dance permission slip and $5 to lunch on those days to get their ticket. See you there for a fun night!
The DRMS Parent & Family Academy on March 13, 2020 will host The Poe Center for a presentation addressing the growing concern of e-cigarettes and youth. Participants will explore adolescent brain development and effects of e-cigarette, risk factors for use, and the protective factors that help prevent use. A discussion on resources and strategies for increasing protective factors with our youth will leave attendees with tools for the next steps. RSVP at http://bit.ly/drmsrsvpspring20
Our PTA is a great group of volunteers and we’d love your help! If you would like to serve on the PTA board or one of our committees next year, please email durantroadmiddlepta@gmail.com for more information – thanks as always for your support of DRMS!
We understand that some may have questions related to the Coronavirus and schools. Please see the following information shared by the district.
