10-22-23 Message from Principal Thomas

Good evening WFHS Students and Families,

This quarter ends on October 31st. Please check your student’s grades and encourage them to get all work and assignments in. Report cards will be given out on November 9th.

Testing InformationAOctober 26th – the PreACT will be administered to all 10th grade students.

Picture Day – November 2nd is makeup picture day for underclassmen.

Senior Pictures - "All seniors must select their preferred formal AND casual portraits to be included in the yearbook. Go to and log in using the email the student used when registering at their appointment. Select the formal pose and the casual pose, if you are able. If you cannot select the casual pose, please EMAIL the proof # of the portrait you'd like to use, and it will be selected in the system for you. (Both selections must be vertical (not landscape). Thank you!" December 1st is the deadline for selections.

From Student Services

All seniors who are registered as a mid-year graduate will be meeting with their counselor on Tuesday 10/24 to go over the different midyear graduation options. This meeting is MANDITORY. Students received an email on 10/17 and will receive a pass to attend on Tuesday. 

NC Governor’s School - The Governor’s School of North Carolina is the oldest summer residential school program for academically or intellectually gifted high school students in the nation. Juniors may attend in the areas of English, Mathematics, Natural Science, Social Science, Spanish, Theater, Visual Arts, Choral Music, Instrumental Music or Dance.  Sophomores may attend in the areas of Choral Music, Instrumental Music or Dance.  This is a competitive statewide 4-week summer residential program for students. The NC Governor’s School application is now open. Students interested in this opportunity should begin by watching the Governor’s School Information Video and should review the Family Overview Information Sheet (English) or (in Espanol). Completed applications including the required recommendations and video (if applicable) are due no later than Friday, October 27, 2023 and must be submitted using the submission link provided. October is Bully Prevention Month. Student Services and PTSA have partnered to create a display by the media center. Students have the opportunity to write a note to their past self on a pumpkin. It was given in their 2nd period class however students can pick up a pumpkin on the main office. 

Is your student interested in developing their leadership skills? Please have them consider self-nominating to represent WFHS at the Hugh O'Brian Leadership Seminar during the Summer of 2024. The Seminar is a multi-day, residential program that takes place on the campus of NC State University. Please see the attached flyer for more information! If they would like to nominate themselves, please complete the following questionnaire and return to me at NO LATER than Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2023.
