12-19-18 Important Message from Principal Hamler

December 19, 2018

Wake Forest High School Parents, This is Principal Patti Hamler.

Because we want to keep you informed, I want to share information about an incident involving one of our former teacher assistants.

Xavier Kearney was arrested yesterday and charged with a sex act with a student at another school.  He had worked at our school as a teacher assistant this year. While here, his role was limited to one classroom.

When the allegations were brought to the attention of WCPSS personnel, they were immediately reported to law enforcement. School officials are working with law enforcement during the investigation. We are also conducting our own investigation into these allegations.

While privacy laws prevent me from providing much information about this specific situation, I can share with you that the alleged incident did not involve a student in his class and it did not occur at a Wake County school or during school hours. The teacher assistant has resigned from his position.

I want to assure you that our first and foremost concern is the safety of our students. Our school community does not take the trust you place in us for granted. I am profoundly upset that these allegations involve a former employee at our school.

I ask everyone to be vigilant in protecting our children and to have important conversations with their children about inappropriate relationships with adults. You can bring any concerns to my attention by calling the school office at 919-554-8611. Students and parents can also report anonymously using the our Tip Line, (919) 856-1911.

Thank you for your continued support of our school.
