5/11/25: The Cardinal Connection
Good Afternoon Pleasant Plains Elementary Families,
Over the past few weeks, I’ve had the joy of meeting many of our amazing students —it’s been a wonderful reminder of why our school community is so special. As we continue building the foundation for our first year, our team has been hard at work gathering and reviewing input from students, staff, and parents to shape a shared vision for Pleasant Plains. Your voices are helping us craft a direction that reflects the hopes and values of our entire school family.
We’re also excited to announce that our official school spirit store is now open, thanks to a partnership with Johnson & Lambe! Show your Cardinal pride by placing an order before May 29. Items will be available for pickup during our upcoming Community Picnic—so mark your calendars!

Visioning Update
At our staff leadership retreat on May 3, I shared feedback from our three primary essential partner groups—students, parents, and staff—using visual word clouds. A word cloud visually represents the frequency of words in a text by displaying more common words in larger, bolder fonts, while less frequent words appear smaller. Below are the word clouds, which are being used to help create a second draft of our school vision.
Parent Essential Partner Group:
What should Pleasant Plains look like, sound like and feel like?
Staff Essential Partner Group:
What should Pleasant Plains look like, sound like and feel like?
Student Essential Partner Group:
What makes a school the best school ever?
Reminder: Charter PTA Meeting - Wednesday, May 28th from 6:00-7:30 pm
The Wake PTA will facilitate the charter meeting for our new PTA. Proposed membership dues are $10; please bring cash or a check to join. Once we have members, we will vote on PTA leadership positions and approve the bylaws under the umbrella of the NC PTA. By the end of the meeting, we’ll officially have a PTA!
Track Assignments
You should have received a postcard via the U.S. Mail with your student’s track assignment. If you did not receive a postcard, or if you are unsatisfied with your child’s track assignment, please contact our data manager, Mrs. Amy Brooks, at abrooks@wcpss.net.
Mrs. Brooks will maintain a wait list through June 30th. We will review the wait list weekly, as there may be opportunities to shift tracks as registration continues. After June 30th, track assignments will be finalized for the school year.
We greatly appreciate your patience and understanding throughout this complex process.
Student School Supply Lists
Grade level teams are now working on supply lists, and they will be posted to our school website by June 1st.
