Interim Progress Reports

Tuesday, February 11 is our first interim progress report date for the third quarter. All course grades should be accurate as of this date.  Please ensure that you are asking questions on how to improve your grade if needed and using Pat Time to access support sessions.

Spring Sports Tryouts

Spring sports tryouts start this week.  Student athletes who are interested in participating in tryouts should ensure that (1) they are eligible, and (2) that they are fully cleared in DragonFly.  More information can be found on the AFHS website and at this link.

Grades 9-11

Course Registration for 2025-2026

Students received information in homeroom last week regarding course registration for 2025-2026.  Please keep in mind the following dates:

  • February 11:  Deadline for students to enter their course selections.

  • February 12:  Counselors start meeting 1:1 with students to verify their course selections.  This will happen during second period and will occur over the 3-4 weeks that follow.

  • March 14:  Applications for any courses that require an application are due.

As you consider your course selections, please utilize the resources found at this link.  Additional resources have been added since Monday to help guide your course selections. I will draw your attention to the following resources:

If you are seeking to talk with your counselor during Pat Time, the sessions you are looking for is SUPPORT: Class Registration Support (Open to all).  You are also welcome to make an appointment with your counselor.

Requests for Midyear Graduation, Early Release, or Late Arrival

Requests for midyear graduation, early release or late arrival is due by March 28.  Forms for these requests can be found at this link.  While we will still process forms after this date, only those received by March 28 are guaranteed to be processed and incorporated into our schedule planning. REMINDER: ACT Testing & Preparation

We are offering a free ACT Prep Session for any 10th or 11th grade student. It will be held on Feb. 22nd from 8am-12pm. Students will rotate through 4 sessions (English, Reading, Math, and ACT Test Prep). All sessions are taught by AFHS teachers. This is intended to help prepare students for the ACT that all 11th grade students will take on March 18th at AFHS. Registration for the prep session is required. If space becomes limited, 11th grade students will get the priority. Use the link below to register. https://bit.ly/ACTlikeaPat2025Registration will close on February 12.

Also, all juniors have access to online test prep resources that you can access through your WakeID.  This includes five practice modules for all parts of the ACT.  To access these resources, please follow the following directions.  If you have trouble accessing the modules, please contact Ms. Wooten (twooten2@wcpss.net). 

  • Login to WakeID Portal

  • You will need to add Edgenuity to your portal.  Click the + button, search for “Edgenuity” and add it to your portal.

  • Click the Edgenuity icon.

Best practices for using these modules include:  (1) Be sure to do the orientation as it will help you navigate the program, (2) For each lesson you will typically have the following - warm up, instruction, assignment, instruction, summary, then quiz.  Do all parts to get the most from the modules!

Seniors Only

Senior Cap & Gown Photos

Seniors who wish to participate in cap & gown photos on February 18 at AFHS must sign up for a time slot by February 17.  Information on this event can be found at this link.  Questions? Contact Ms. Matthews (amatthews@wcpss.net)

Graduation Speaker Interest Form

Each year we select a student speaker for graduation.  Any student who is expected to graduate in June can apply to be the graduation speaker. Applications are due Thursday, April 10.  More information is available at this link.  Questions? Contact Mr. Pittman (bpittman@wcpss.net).

Cap & Gown Distribution

Jostens will be on campus on February 19 to distribute graduation supplies.  If you have not yet ordered your cap, gown or other graduation supplies, please move quickly to do that.  More Information

Submit Your Scholarships!

All seniors are encouraged to submit scholarships that they are offered.  Even if you are not planning to accept the scholarship, we want you to report it so that we can include it in our celebration at the end of the year!  Use this form to submit those scholarships.
