QUICK LINKS:  Grades 9 & 10  |  Grade 11  |  Grade 12

ALL STUDENTS

Starting Spring Semester Classes

On Wednesday, January 22 we will begin spring semester classes.  Students will report to homeroom first in order to get their official class schedules.  More information on class schedules, bell schedules, and more is available at this link.

Spring Semester Lunch Assignments

Students can view spring semester lunch assignments at this link.  Lunches are assigned by your period 3 teacher.

Spring Sports Tryouts

Spring sports tryouts will start in a few weeks.  Student athletes who are interested in participating in tryouts should ensure that (1) they are eligible, and (2) that they are fully cleared in DragonFly.  More information can be found on the AFHS website and at this link.

Pat Time Updates

We will be making some updates to Pat Time as we move into the spring semester.  The goal of these changes are to (1) increase positive academic outcomes as a result of Pat Time, and (2) to increase student accountability for using Pat Time as intended.  As we move into the spring, please anticipate the following:

  • Standard Session Names.  Students will notice that sessions have a standard naming structure to make it easier to find sessions aligned to their needs.  All sessions will start with the category (ex: CLUB, SUPPORT, etc.) followed by the name of the session.  In parentheses at the end of the session title, students will find information on who can attend.  For example:

    • CLUB: National Honor Society (current members)

    • SUPPORT: Biology Support (Wentz Students Only)

    • SUPPORT: Study All (open to all)

  • Attendance.  All teachers will start utilizing a QR code for attendance for Pat Time sessions.  It is the student’s responsibility to ensure they scan the QR code.  Notices will be sent home 2-3 times per week where students are not signed in for their session.  Also, students can now choose a session called ABSENT when they know they will have a planned, expected absence.

  • Entry to Sessions.  All students will be expected to show their phone or laptop screen showing that they are assigned to the session they are entering.  Students will not be admitted to any other session.  No changes to sessions will be made after 12pm on the day prior to the session.  Teachers will no longer be able to add students on the day of the session.

  • Academic Success.  Students who are making a D or F in their class at interims should anticipate being assigned to required support sessions for those classes.

We anticipate that students who have been using Pat Time as intended will see no significant changes.  We do think these minor adjustments will increase both effectiveness and safety of Pat Time which will in turn help us to maintain Pat Time as a structure for students.
