FAMILY INVOLEVMENT

We look forward to partnering with you to support your child, as the best education for our students can be achieved through a comprehensive partnership between our school, families, and community.

  • Our PTA works hard to provide representation, support, and fun opportunities for our families. I encourage you to join our PTA as a board member or general member. PTA membership forms will be available at our Meet the Teacher event and in the front office. You can also contact our PTA directly at ptarogerslane@gmail.com.

  • I also encourage you to be involved through communicating regularly with your child’s teacher, supporting your child in their learning at home, and volunteering at our school. All volunteers, including classroom activities and field trip chaperones, must be approved in advance. The volunteer renewal process is quick and simple for all volunteers who were approved for the 2023-24 school year. The renewal window is now open through Oct. 1, 2024. Go to the MyVolunteer Volunteer Renewal site to renew your volunteer status today! Log into your MyVolunteer account and follow the directions for Volunteer Renewal. The process should only take a few minutes. Once approved, the renewal date in your MyVolunteer profile will be updated.

HOW TO PREPARE FOR THIS SCHOOL YEAR

  • ARRIVAL: School doors open at 8:45 am. Students should not be dropped off before 8:45 AM as they will be unsupervised. Students should arrive at school between 8:45 AM - 9:15 AM. Any tardy student (arriving to their class after 9:15 AM) must be checked in at the front office by their parent/guardian.
  • DISMISSAL: Dismissal begins at 3:45 p.m. Unless students are identified by the WCPSS Transportation Department as living in the Rogers Lane walk zone, they will need to be dismissed through carpool or by riding their assigned bus or daycare van. Please communicate with your child’s teacher in advance about your child’s primary mode of transportation.
  • CARPOOL: If you wish to pick up your child in the carpool line at any time during the year, you must display the Rogers Lane carpool tag from your rearview mirror. If you were assigned a carpool number last year, you will use the same number for this school year. All families will receive two carpool tags with the same number during the “Meet Your Teacher” event on August 23rd (for grades 1 through 5) and August 30th (for Kindergarten), as well as in the office during the first week of school. Please help your child memorize their carpool tag number immediately to speed up the loading process!
  • DROP OFF: To drop students off before school, parents should enter the carpool loop in a single file line and drop children off in the carpool lane ONLY, between 8:45 and 9:15 am. For the safety and efficiency of the process, parents should remain in their cars during this time. Rogers Lane staff will help your child(ren) exit your vehicle.
  • PICK UP: Parents should enter the carpool lane in two lines to pick students up at dismissal. For safety, adults will guide students to meet the drivers at each colored “planet.” Staff members will monitor the process. Students will be called by their assigned carpool number as the parent approaches. Parents are to always remain in their cars during the carpool process. For the safety of everyone, please do not use your cell phone during carpool.
  • WALKING STUDENTS TO CLASS: Parents of 1st through 5th graders will be allowed to walk students to class until Friday, August 30th, 2024. Parents of Kindergarten students will be allowed to walk students to class until Monday, September 9, 2024. Beginning Tuesday, September 10th, all students will walk independently to class this day and every day moving forward.
  • VISITORS: All parents/guests visiting our school campus are required to go directly to the front office before going anywhere else on campus. Our office staff will provide information and assistance. School doors remain locked during the school day; please ring the doorbell by the front door for assistance when visiting the school.
  • EARLY CHECK OUT: Students will not be able to check out from the front office after 3:15, as this can be disruptive to finishing the school day effectively.
  • MEDICATION: School staff may administer medication to students only when the Parent and Physician Order for Medication form (Form 1702) is completed by the parent and physician and given to the school. No medication will be given by a school official unless it is in a container dispensed by a pharmacy with the student’s name, name of medication, date prescription was filled, and directions clearly marked. A new medication form must be completed if there are changes in medication directions. Parents or guardians are responsible for monitoring medication expiration dates and replacing medication when expired. At the beginning of each school year, an adult will need to bring the medicine along with the completed form 1702 to the school’s front office. The school cannot give medicine to your child without this form. The 1702 form and additional information can be found here: www.wcpss.net/Page/167.
  • BREAKFAST: Breakfast is free for all students at Rogers Lane, each day from 8:45 AM – 9:10 AM.
  • LUNCH: For the 24-25 school year, Rogers Lane is one of the select schools in the Wake County Public School System to qualify for a special meal provision called the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP).  CEP schools may serve nourishing, healthy meals to all enrolled students at no cost to the household without collecting household income applications. Families do not need to complete a meal benefits income application for their student(s) to receive free meals.

Parents/guardians may eat lunch with their child(ren) starting Monday, September 9th. This will allow teachers time to teach and practice cafeteria expectations with their students.

I am excited to greet all our students on their first day of a positive, enriching school year!

Thank you for your support,

Cejuanna Morgan

Principal
