Principal's Introductory Letter
December 6, 2022
Dear Leesville Staff and Families,
Greetings! I’m excited to accept the Wake County School Board’s approval this evening to become the next Principal of Leesville Road Middle School. I honor Ms. Kremer’s dedicated career in public education and congratulate her on her retirement this month. I’m excited to officially join you on January 3, 2023.
As a Leesville Middle and High School graduate, I never dreamed I would return to the Leesville community one day. In fact, I never expected to find my way back to a classroom as I was studying broadcasting and Spanish at UNC-Chapel Hill. With some divine intervention, my career plans were re-routed, and I became a Spanish teacher and coach at Millbrook High School. I soon discovered my passion in public education was centered around building genuine connections with students and families. My principal at Millbrook prompted me toward my pursuit of a master’s degree in School Administration, and this led to my first administrative role as the Assistant Principal at Martin GT Magnet Middle in 2009. I believe my seven years at Martin prepared me to be a better servant-leader alongside middle school staff while partnering with families to better serve our students.
In 2016, I became the Principal at Stough Magnet Elementary. Over these last six years, we persevered through building renovations and navigating the landscape of education during a pandemic. We centered our work on three key themes: Achievement, Character and Community. I believe these themes can be carried over to any workplace or school, and I hope to embody them as a servant-leader within the Leesville community in the years to come.
While I have loved my time at Stough, I believe it’s the right time in my professional journey to give back to a new community, one that has some historical relevancy for me and my family. I look forward to meeting all of you in the weeks and months to come, and I am optimistic about our partnership to serve all our students at Leesville Road Middle School.
Best regards,
Chris Cox
