Principal's Message 3.16.25

Updates for this week:

Northwest YMCA:  As announced during our General PTA meeting on February 12th, the Northwest YMCA will be the vendor that provides before and after-school care for Pleasant Grove Elementary during the 2025-2026 school year.  These services will no longer be provided through the City of Raleigh Parks & Recreation.  Further details from the YMCA are forthcoming.  In the meantime, check out program offerings here:

School Attendance:  Hello Flyer Families! As we are well into the second half of the school year, we are excited to see your child(ren) EVERYDAY so they can learn as much as possible for the remainder of this school year! Good attendance will help your child soar academically in school, in college, and in their future career. School attendance not only enhances your child academically, but it also supports their social-emotional growth. Missing 10% of school (about 18 days) can hinder academic success. Any time missed in the classroom (excused or unexcused) is a lost opportunity to learn. If you have questions, or concerns or need support with getting your child to school and on time daily, please contact our School Social Worker, Mrs. Houston-Burden (chouston-burden@wcpss.net). Let's finish the school year strong Flyers!

Track Change Requests:  If you are interested in submitting a track change request for the upcoming school year, then now is the time to do so.  All track change requests are due by March 31st.  You may request a track change request form directly from your child’s teacher.  You may also stop by the front office to pick one up.  Only paper copies will be accepted for consideration.

First Tee:  An additional Wednesday has been added to the Spring session of First Tee due to losing a class because of inclement weather.  The remaining session dates for First Tee are now:  March 5th, March 12th, March 19th, March 26th, April 23rd, April 30th, and May 7th (last session).

Early Student Check-Out:  Please be reminded that early student check-out from the front office ends at 3:15 to protect instructional time at the end of the day.  If you arrive to campus after 3:15 intending to pick up your student, you will need to do so via carpool, which begins at 3:45.  In addition, anytime you are picking your child up from the front office, be prepared to show a picture identification.

Interim/Progress Reports:  We are almost halfway through the grading period.  Quarter 3 progress reports will come home by students on March 28th for tracks 2-4.

Final Cultural Arts Assembly:  Thanks to our PTA, students enjoyed a cultural arts assembly on Friday, March 7th.  The Apex Skip-Its Jump Rope Team visited our school and brought an incredible afternoon of fun, fitness, and learning.  Students were captivated by the impressive routines and enthusiastic coaching.  They learned single-rope freestyle, speed and power, partner jumping skills, and even Double Dutch!  The Skip-Its team emphasized the importance of character development, teamwork, and a strong work ethic, making the event not only fun but also educational.  The energy and excitement were palpable as our students jumped, laughed, and cheered each other on!  It was a fantastic opportunity for them to develop new skills, build confidence, and stay active.
