Updates for this week:

Science Fair:  PTA is happy to announce that Stemarga and Stembuilders of the Triangle are partnering with our school for the Science Fair on Tuesday, March 4th. We are looking for a lot more student participation so we can make this event a success.

Registration deadline- February, 15th 2025.

Single Subject Acceleration:  This Spring, Pleasant Grove Elementary along with Wake County Public Schools will be providing opportunities for students to be assessed for Single Subject Acceleration or SSA. SSA is an opportunity for students to advance one grade level in either Math or English Language Arts as outlined with Board Policy 3422.

Mrs. Bunn, AIG teacher and SSA contact for Pleasant Grove will hold a brief virtual informational session on Wednesday, February 19 at 1:00. This session will be recorded and posted later for parents who cannot attend. Link to Informational Session

Important information:

Testing Windows

  • Track 1, 2, and 3: April 4 - April 17
  • Track 4: April 28 - May 9
  • Modified and Leadership Academies: March 24 - April 4
  • Traditional: April 11- April 25

Test Request Deadlines

All test request windows will open at 8:00 a.m. Eastern Time on the first day of the test request window and close at 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time on the last day of the request window.  

  • Track 1, Modified and Leadership Academy: February 17–March 7, 2025
  • Track 2, 3, 4, and Traditional: March 10–March 28, 2025 

(NO request will be taken after the request window closes)

All tests will be given at Pleasant Grove Elementary. Students in grades 1 - 5 will be tested through a Canvas site using their school issued Chromebook. Kindergarten students testing to skip First grade content, will be given a paper/pencil test. 

Next steps for Parents:

  1. Attend Informational Session or Read through SSA information on the WCPSS website and listen to the recording from the director of Advanced Learning, La' Kesha Spruill-Roberts.
  2. If interested in SSA for your child, use the link on the website to register your child for testing. 
  3. Melissa Bunn, SSA contact at PGES will communicate the day and time of testing for your child.

Kid’s Heart Challenge:  Have you met Heart Hero Finn? He is sharing Finn's Mission to help kids with special hearts—just like him! Finn has set a goal to encourage as many families as possible to learn about heart health and the lifesaving skill of Hands-Only CPR. You can support this initiative by participating in Finn's Mission. When your student completes all the missions, they will earn a Lifesavers Cape!
