Maverick Message for May 5, 2023
New Information
Progress Reports: Students received progress reports in all classes today. There are only 7 school days left before exams, so students should be actively working with teachers on missing work, late work, and redo/retakes. Please review these reports with students to ensure that they have a plan to address concerns with grades.
May 9 Early Release: Our last early release day of the year is Tuesday, May 9. Students will be dismissed at 12:05.
Exam Calendar and Permission for Early Dismissal: Please see this document for our final exam schedule. Please be aware that…
-
Students should be on campus during their scheduled exam for the duration of the exam period. Students cannot be picked up before the end of the exam period. For example, if a student has the Math 3 exam, they will need to be on campus on Wednesday, May 17 from 7:20 until 11:30. They can be checked out when the exam period is over. See #2 for instructions on checking out a student at the end of an exam period.
-
If a student only has an exam in the morning, they may leave when the testing period is over, but they need parental permission. This form has more information and a place for a parent to provide permission. Students received a paper copy of this document today.
-
Students do not need to be on campus on days or during testing blocks when they do not have an exam. Please review the testing schedule (at the beginning of this section) with them so everyone knows what days and times to come to campus.

Questions? Please email Ms. McCaslin (dmccaslin@wcpss.net).
WTCC Applications for Current Freshmen: Please check with your student to assure that they have completed their Wake Tech application with Mr. Kincy, as well as submitted the Publicity Release Form (optional) and the Statement of Understanding Form (mandatory). Please email Mr. Kincy, our Wake Tech Liaison, at wckincy@waketech.edu, for any additional questions.
Summer Enrichment: Wake County Emergency Management team is working with their counterparts in Durham, Orange and the state to offer a new summer experience for high school females. The HERricane experience, which runs from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. for four days in July, is an opportunity for young women interested a career in Emergency Management or another first-response field. It’s free of charge, and there will be lunches provided each day. Participants will need a ride to and from the NCEM State Operations Center each day, but transport to and from field trips will be covered. For more information, click this link. Repeated Information
2023-24 School Calendar is Approved: Here is the link for next year’s calendar. The first day of school is Tuesday, August 8. Please try to protect December 1-20 and May 1-22 from appointments and travel due to the volume of exams scheduled during those windows. Exams will include Wake Tech final exams, certification exams, AP exams, and high school final exams.
WECIB in the News: We’ve been in the news for some great things. Two news stations provided a project from our Honors Civics class. You can watch these here and here. Our Spanish 2 students have written children’s books and shared them with a Spanish immersion elementary school. You can see a story about that here. Kudos to the staff and students that have worked on these projects!
ACTION NEEDED Annual Parent Survey: Please take a few minutes to complete the annual parent survey for our school. Your feedback is important and will help us make needed changes to our programming. Thanks in advance for your help! Here is the link to the survey: surveys.panoramaed.com/wakecounty/family
End of Semester Stress: As the end of the semester approaches, we want to acknowledge that students are under a lot of stress right now. Effective time management may help alleviate some of the pressure and we are working with many students to help with this. Please talk to your student about their projects, deadlines, and upcoming exams and encourage them to work with teachers if they need clarification or support. We are here to help!
Thinking about Transportation Plans for Next Year: With 90 more students adding to our enrollment, there is a chance that bus stops and routes may change for the 23-24 school year. Those routes will be posted in July.
GrubHub and other Food Deliveries to Students: Please be aware that food deliveries to students are not allowed at WECIB.
Absences: When students are absent, parents should contact our attendance office at attendance-587@wcpss.net. In addition, students should reach out to all teachers, including Wake Tech and NCVPS if applicable, to make them aware of absences.
Planning trips in May 2023? Please be aware that our last day of school is May 23 and final exams are May 17-23. Per state law, we are not allowed to administer exams earlier than that window (exams must be administered during the last five days of school and are administered according to a schedule established by the school). Please keep these dates in mind if you are planning trips in May to ensure students do not miss exams.
