As the end of the quarter approaches, we have been celebrating our growth mindset culture with Growth Mindset Assemblies. If you’re new to our school, this growth mindset culture may be something you’re unfamiliar with, and I would love to share how we implement it at OCE.
A few years ago, our staff studied the work of Carol Dweck; in particular, her book Mindset. This Ted Talk video on growth mindset is a great overview: Growth Mindset Ted Talk.
Since that book study, we have implemented growth mindset in our classrooms in the following ways:
Teaching growth mindset lessons
Teaching and using growth mindset language
Teaching students how to rate their effort using an effort meter
Recognizing students with growth mindset awards
Teaching students how to set goals and track them
Celebrating students who meet and “crush” their goals
