Apex Friendship Elementary School
March 17, 2023
Dismissal on Friday - March 17, 2023
Apex Friendship HS is having an invitational track meet today which could slow down our carpool line. Please allow extra time for carpool this afternoon.
Friday, March 24 is an Early Release Day.
Students dismiss at 1:45pm.
Late Arrivals and Early Departures
We recognize there are many circumstances that require a student to arrive or depart late from school. Please be aware that repeated instances do impact the day. We have had 4,661 late check-ins or early check-outs from school since August 29, 2022. Thanks for your partnership in minimizing these when possible.
Carpool Procedures
Please avoid pulling around other cars in the carpool lane if your child has already exited the vehicle. This will help to avoid a potential accident in the carpool lane and will keep everyone safe. Thank you for your patience.
Are you moving or not planning to return to AFES next year?
We need to know if your child will not be attending AFES next year! If you are moving or not planning for your child to attend next year, you need to complete a withdrawal form. Please contact the main office and speak to Mrs. Middleton or email her at amiddleton@wcpss.net. The withdrawl form can be sent electronically and sent back to Mrs. Middleton via email.
(This announcement does not apply to students who are moving to 6th grade.)
Scenario: A family moves out of state in late June. They do not tell AFES that their child will not be attending school here anymore. On the first day of school, their child is marked as a no-show student. After multiple days, we will have to call them and see where their child is and why they aren’t attending school. Knowing this information in advance is helpful to our planning and allows us to call back students who may be on a waitlist.
Single Subject Acceleration Program for Math
The Wake County Public School System (WCPSS) Board of Education defines acceleration as allowing a student to move through traditional educational organizations more rapidly, based on readiness and motivation. Single Subject Acceleration (SSA) is the practice of placing a student in a higher-grade level in one subject area. This type of acceleration is for the purpose of providing access to appropriately challenging learning opportunities.
Once a student is placed in SSA math, they will remain a grade level ahead through high school. The student will be placed in the higher math class, with a qualifying SSA test score, in the FOLLOWING school year. Students who qualify this year in 2023, will be placed in their higher math class for the 2023-2024 school year at Apex Friendship Elementary School.
If you have talked to your child's classroom teacher and/or Mrs. Franzen about SSA, please fill out the form to sign your child up to take the SSA test in mid-April. Please note that this form doesn't go "live" until the nomination window opens, which will be on Monday, March 20th at 8 AM. This form MUST be received by 4 PM on March 24th in order to have your child tested for SSA math. Form Link: https://forms.gle/2CpHn5ddUAoFpz9E6
This deadline is firm as we must order testing materials from the district. There are no exceptions. The window will open again next spring for the following school year.
If you have questions about SSA, please view the video on our website or contact our AIG Teacher, Mrs. Kate Franzen https://www.wcpss.net/domain/19605
