Carpool Numbers

It is helpful if all families have a carpool number, even if they may only use it once or twice.  You can call the main office or stop by and pick up a number!

Lost and Found

Our lost and found is located near the office.  Please stop by and claim coats, jackets, sweatshirts, water bottles, and more.

Unexcused Absences

Due to the enrollment cap effective 2/21/23, students who are absent for 10 or more consecutive unexcused days, may be unenrolled from AFES.  This is the policy for capped schools.  If your child is unenrolled, you will be required to re-register.  If a seat is not available, you may be sent to Baucom at Wood’s Creek.  Please plan extended trips accordingly for the remainder of this year and for the 2023-2024 school year.  More information about attendance can be found here:  https://www.wcpss.net/attendance-absences

Have you registered your Kindergartener for the 2023-2024 school year?  Because we are now a capped school and based on School Board Policy 4150:  Rising Kindergarten students who have proof of residency within the attendance area for the capped school on our before the capping date (2/21/23) and who register in the capped school on or before March 1 are eligible to attend the capped school.

The March 1 deadline has passed so rising Kindergarten students are not guaranteed a seat if parents have not registered online and in person!  If you have questions, contact Angie Middleton at amiddleton@wcpss.net or call the school and ask to speak with her.

Additional Information for Families who have Kindergarten Students

A school tour will be provided to families of incoming kindergarten students again on April 18 from 9:30-10:15 am.  Families will be able to see some of our Special Area locations and the kindergarten hall.  Tours will not enter the classrooms. Positivity Project

This week our school community will be focusing on the Other People Mindset of Identifying and Appreciating the Good in Others. It’s important to deliberately work to identify and appreciate others’ character strengths.

Identifying and appreciating the good in others is a core tenet of the Other People Mindset. This isn’t always what comes naturally. Often, it’s easier to blame others for our problems or find flaws in others to use as excuses for our own jealousy, bitterness, or resentment. The problem is that this negativity usually leads to problems -- for ourselves, for the other person, and for our relationships.

Identifying and appreciating the good in other people helps you see the world through a more positive -- and less threatening -- lens. If you’re constantly seeing the negative traits of people, you’re going to think the world is comprised of bad people -- and you’re going to operate from a defensive posture. This isn’t to say that we should be naive or see the world, and its people, through “rose-colored glasses.” It’s just that we should strive to understand people’s intent. If you see the good in another, they are likely to see the good in you.

To practice and encourage the character strength of perspective with your child, please visit the Positivity Project’s P2 for Families (password: P2), where together you will watch a video, read a quote, and talk about the answers to three questions.
