Apex Friendship Elementary School

January 13, 2023

Specials Change Beginning January 30

Beginning in the 2nd semester, students will travel to the same Special for 6 days in a row.  This will allow our Specialists to teach complete units and to get to know the students.  Mrs. Nowak will be sharing procedures for the Media Center as students will still be able to check out books continuously.  Please make note of the days your child has PE so they wear appropriate shoes during that rotation.

AFES Inaugural Yearbook

The 2022-2023 Yearbook is now on sale!  Navigate to the site below for more information.  If you purchase your book prior to April 12, you can create two custom pages that will only be printed in your book.  Orders are only accepted online directly with the vendor.  Do not send in any money to school.  This is a yearbook unlike any other elementary school yearbook that you’ve seen before.  You will need to create an account at the site listed below.  https://www.treering.com/purchase?PassCode=1016681005914421

Have you registered your Kindergartener for the 2022-2023 school year?

Registering your child now for Kindergarten supports the planning and funding positions in our school!  Though registration is open throughout 2023, please register before the end of February if possible!   Your registration is not complete until you come to school with the required paperwork!

All families with children who will turn five on or before Aug. 31, 2023 should register online. The address lookup tool allows families to find their base school and view year-round and magnet school application choices. Learn more about the registration process at wcpss.net/kindergarten.

Additional Information for families of rising Kindergarten Students

School tours will be provided to families of incoming kindergarten students again on April 18 from 9:30-10:15 am.  Families will be able to see some of our Special Area locations and the kindergarten hall.  Tours will not enter the classrooms. No sign-up is needed prior to the event.  A Kindergarten Orientation session for incoming families will be held on Thursday, May 11 at 6:30pm.

Positivity Project

This week our school community will be focusing on the character strength of Perseverance. Perseverance means you complete what you start despite obstacles. You never give up.

The concept of perseverance can most often be found in one’s active pursuit of overcoming obstacles. Perseverance is a uniquely human characteristic that identifies an individual’s ability to spend long periods of time devoted to a single goal or set of goals. People demonstrating high levels of perseverance can handle significant, sometimes repeated, setbacks in pursuit of goals.

Those who persevere through setbacks often reap the benefits of the success gained by refusing to give up. Sometimes, this comes with the added benefit of increased knowledge and skill as a result of the work needed to achieve. A single group member’s ability or willingness to persevere can substantially impact those working with them and the team. Groups that show high levels of perseverance can achieve goals they may not have believed possible.

To practice and encourage the character strength of perseverance with your child, please visit the Positivity Project’s P2 for Families (password: P2), where together you will watch a video, read a quote, and talk about the answers to three questions.
