Happy New Year, Stars!
AFES Inaugural Yearbook

If you purchase your book prior to April 12, you can create two custom pages that will only be printed in your book. Orders are only accepted online directly with the vendor. Have you registered your Kindergartner for the 2022-2023 school year?
Registering your child now for Kindergarten supports the planning and funding positions in our school! Though registration is open throughout 2023, please register before the end of February if possible! Your registration is not complete until you come to school with the required paperwork!
All families with children who will turn five on or before Aug. 31, 2023 should register online. The address lookup tool allows families to find their base school and view year-round and magnet school application choices. Learn more about the registration process at wcpss.net/kindergarten.
Additional Information for families of rising Kindergarten Students
School tours will be provided to families of incoming kindergarten students on January 10 and April 18 from 9:30-10:15 am. Families will be able to see some of our Special Area locations and the kindergarten hall. Tours will not enter the classrooms. No sign-up is needed prior to the event. A Kindergarten Orientation session for incoming families will be held on Thursday, May 11 at 6:30pm.
Angie Middleton is our school data manager and supports registration and school tours. Please contact her at firstname.lastname@example.org if needed.
We are pleased to announce that Tennis Time will be coming to Apex Friendship Elementary School starting in February. Here is the information if you would like to sign up your son or daughter.
Lost and Found
All lost and found items will be donated to charity on January 13. Please claim missing items before January 13 right next to the main office.
Student Check Out
In order to ensure that teachers can focus on the end of day activities and to limit last minute intercom announcements, we end student check outs at 3:15 each day (or 30 minutes prior to dismissal). Please plan accordingly if you need to check out your child for an appointment or other activity. If you arrive after 3:15, you will need to wait until dismissal at 3:45. (FYI - this is the same procedure that’s used by the middle school.)
PreK Application Process
The Wake County Pre-Kindergarten application process is now open for the 2023-2024 school year. The Office of Early Learning coordinates all enrollment based on very specific criteria that includes a screening appointment. Print an application at www.wcpss.net/PKTitleI

This week our school community will be focusing on the character strength of Prudence. Prudence means you plan for the future and achieve your goals by making careful everyday choices.
Prudence is the ability to do the right thing for the right reason, at the right time. It’s a future-oriented way of thinking that helps a person set goals, make plans, and have the discipline to accomplish them. It is cognitive -- more a strength of the head than of the heart.
Prudence supports effective individual self-management. Whether aspiring for an athletic record, academic grade, or purchasing a car, foresight and planning are necessary. However, even with a plan, long-term goals can only be obtained by overcoming those impulses and desires that steer you away from your goals. Prudence provides the wisdom to know which character strength to leverage, at which time, to achieve your desired end state.
To practice and encourage the character strength of prudence with your child, please visit the Positivity Project’s P2 for Families (password: P2) where together you will watch a video, read a quote and talk about the answers to three questions.
