Please check Powerschool weekly
One of the most important things you can do to support your middle schooler is to check Powerschool weekly for grades and attendance. We encourage you to set a weekly appointment with your student and look at it together. As a reminder, parents can also set up their own Powerschool account. Here is a quick Powerschool tutorial. Each grade level is also sending the 4 step directions via Talking Points this week.

Early College and Magnet High School Applications
There will be an Early College Mini-Fair on November 7th at Zebulon Middle School. This is the last opportunity to talk to representatives from all Early College High Schools at the same time. You are encouraged to check each school’s website for opportunities to attend their own Open House or Tour to learn more detailed information. Mrs. Winters will continue meeting with individual students interested in applying to help. Students are encouraged to begin their application and essays no later than November 24th so teachers and counselors will have time to write letters of recommendation.
Credit by Demonstrated Mastery
Our student(s) have an opportunity to gain HIGH SCHOOL CREDIT towards graduation while in middle school. Please review the information HERE. The information, available courses, application and agreement as well as the process chart are included within the link.. The application period is from October 14 until December 20, 2024, with testing in mid February. If you have further questions please contact sfparnell@wcpss.net, our Credit by Demonstrated Mastery Coordinator.
Afternoon Dismissal/ Carpool
We have implemented a new afternoon dismissal process. Students are assigned to a dismissal classroom/ space based on their mode of transportation (bus route number) and wait until they are called to walk down with a staff member. Students who are picked up through carpool are being escorted down once we have loaded some of our bus routes. This new process has helped in creating a safer dismissal process. We are asking for families who pick up their students through carpool to review the map to help with navigating through the parking lot to ensure a safe and expedited process. Thank you for everyone’s patience and understanding.
Wall of Wolves Art Contest Winner
Adrianna C. is our 2024 Wall of Wolves Art Contest Winner! Adrianna's artwork Wolf of Affirmation will be displayed on the Friday Insititue's "Wall of Wolves" overlooking the Barbara and Dudley Flood Gallery. Their artwork will join last year's winner and will greet visitors the moment they walk through the Friday Institute doors, serving as a reminder to the numerous educators, researchers and policymakers of the children we impact on a daily basis.
