Family Message 10/27/24

Dear Families,

We are looking forward to continuing our positive growth this upcoming week. With Halloween occurring this week, please note that students may not wear costumes to school; students should come to school dressed per WCPSS dress code policy. Thank you for your support with this effort.

Family Workshops

WCPSS is offering one final family workshop this month on communicating with your kids.  See the linked flyer for details.

Centennial School Counselors will hold a virtual session for families titled Middle School 101 on Monday, Oct. 28 from 6 - 7 pm via Google Meet:  meet.google.com/cmo-fjgi-wkk  This will include a discussion on the development of your middle schooler and forming successful habits including the use of Powerschool.  This is a repeat of the two counselor-led sessions at Open House for those who missed them.

8th Grade Updates

The Magnet and Early College Fair is Saturday, Oct. 26 from 9 am - 12 pm at Enloe Magnet High School.  Mrs. Winters will continue  individual meetings with 8th grade students this week who express interest in applying to an Early College and/or Magnet High School.  Students can schedule an appointment by speaking with her or emailing her at bwinters@wcpss.net.

Bus Code of Conduct

During track out, our school administration met with key stakeholders in the WCPSS Transportation department to review the Bus Code of Conduct. We ask kindly that you review the Bus Code of Conduct with your students. It is imperative that our students understand that riding the bus is a privilege. Thank you for your support with this matter if your student(s) ride the bus.

Dillard Drive MS Basketball

Those students who are interested in trying out for the boys’ basketball team at Dillard Drive MS this winter should review the information provided HERE. These students should also plan to attend an information session with Coach Stafford on October 30 at 7:30am during our Advisory block. We have not yet received information about the girls’ basketball season.

Credit by Demonstrated Mastery

Our student(s) have an opportunity to gain HIGH SCHOOL CREDIT towards graduation while in middle school.  Please review the information HERE. The information, available courses, application and agreement as well as the process chart are included within the link.. The application period is from October 14 until December 20, 2024, with testing in mid February. If you have further questions please contact sfparnell@wcpss.net, our Credit by Demonstrated Mastery Coordinator.

Afternoon Dismissal/ Carpool

We have implemented a new afternoon dismissal process. Students are assigned to a dismissal classroom/ space based on their mode of transportation (bus route number) and wait until they are called to walk down with a staff member. Students who are picked up through carpool are being escorted down once we have loaded some of our bus routes.  This new process has helped in creating a safer dismissal process. We are asking for families who pick up their students through carpool to review the map to help with navigating through the parking lot to ensure a safe and expedited process. Thank you for everyone’s patience and understanding.

Sincerely,

Jesse Gore
