Principal's Weekly Message 8-14

Hello this is Kathryn Hutchinson, principal at Centennial Campus Magnet Middle School with your weekly message. This message can be found on our website.

Thank you to all of our families that attended our Open House this past week. Having the opportunity to build our community and begin to connect is important as we work together towards academic success for our students. The next opportunity for our community to come together will be our Curriculum Night on September 8th.

Also thank you to everyone who joined the PTSA. By the end of our Open House we had total of 92 new members. And congratulations to those that won the drawings for the gifts. Watch your email to see if you won. And if you haven’t done so yet, please join this group.

After hearing from multiple families still concerned about the safety in driving through carpool, I continue to ask that families drive through the parking lot following the guidance we have provided. Safety needs to be everyone’s priority when dropping your child off and picking them up. It is not necessary to move our cones that are guiding the drivers in the lot. Thank you for reviewing these expectations and if you have someone else driving your child, please share these guidelines.

I do want to thank our families for your support with helping students put their cell phones away and focus on learning. We are seeing students being more responsive in learning and with their connections with their peers. We want to continue to support our students and appreciate your support in this matter.

Beginning this week, our website will include a posting of our Learning Snapshot. This is a quick guide to what your student will be learning in the next week of school. Take the opportunity to have some table talk conversation with your child to learn more about their experiences at school. You can find the Snapshot at this link.

Coach Tanis, the football coach for Dillard Drive Middle, is having voluntary workouts starting on weekdays from August 16th through August 25th from 6:00pm to 7:30pm for any interested seventh and eighth graders that plan to try out for football. Students need to upload their physical and other information to DragonFly on the Dillard Drive website.

Any student interested in participating in the Math Science Engineering Network program this school year, their parents must participate in a Google Meet interest meeting happening this week on Wednesday, August 17th from 6:00 to 7:00. For further information or for the Google meet code, please reach out to Ms. Joy Bibbs.

The application for Student Council has been extended through Wednesday, August 17th. Students should pick up the forms and have a parent or guardian sign and return to the office. We have three main committees including student ambassadors, student engagement and yearbook. Please encourage your student to consider joining this group. Meetings are once a month in person afterschool and once a month virtually.

Please note that this Friday, August 19th is a teacher workday. No school for students on August 19th.

Thank you for your support of Centennial Campus Magnet where we H.O.W.L. with Red Wolf Pride. Have a great week!
