Our first week of the book fair was a success thanks to all of the volunteers that supported each day and the hard work of Ms. Powell. Thank you all! See below for more Book Fair updates from Ms. Powell.
Next week is Custodial Appreciation Week. Our community will be celebrating Julie Guerra, our head custodian, all week. Julie works hard and she keeps our school shining every day. I know students love seeing her around the building. Talk to your child about the importance of her role and why we should show her our appreciation.
Quarter 1 Report cards will be coming home for our Tracks 1-3 students on October 11. Please look for information from your child’s teacher about setting up a Q1 Parent/Teacher conference. These conferences are an important opportunity for you to find out how your child is doing academically and socially and to learn more about how you can support your child at home.
If you need anything at all, you can reply to this email or email me directly at email@example.com
The Scholastic Book Fair is HERE and thriving!!! Choosing their own books empowers kids and inspires them to become Bolder, Prouder, and Stronger Readers. AND—as always—every book they buy earns rewards for our school.
A huge Thank You to all who attended our Family Night. It was quite a success. Thank you to our volunteers who are making the Book Fair run smoothly!
Here’s what you need to know about the Fair, which will take place from Sept. 23rd through Oct. 7th at the TCE Library Media Center. Our next family event is Wednesday, Oct.5, 5-7 pm.
For Track 1 - students will preview on Monday, 10/3. K-3 students will have an opportunity to buy during Library special. 4-5 students have an opportunity to purchase during All Block. In lieu of morning and afternoon check out, the Book Fair will be open for purchasing.
Remember, to set up eWallet - your child’s digital payment account - for worry-free, cash-free purchases. Of course cash, cards, and checks are accepted as well. Teacher wishlists will also be available (teachers may also have eWallets for wishlist items).
These tours are intended for families who are considering applying for the year-round calendar option. Tours for rising Kindergarteners will be scheduled in the Spring.
Positivity Project and National Bullying Prevention Month
October is National Bullying Prevention Month. The Positivity Project is an upstream approach to preventing bullying. By teaching students how to build positive relationships (through the Other People Mindset elements), Partner Schools are showing students "what right looks like" in how they treat other people. I thought the Other People Matter Mindset element Knowing that My Words and Actions Affect Other (Linked) would be a fitting P2 focus to kick off the month. Use the link to learn more.
Use these questions to talk to your child at home:
Why is it important to be thoughtful with your words?
What are some ways that you use your words to make other people happy?
How can you use your actions to make other people happy?
Wednesday, October 19: Wear and Share Orange Day
WEAR AND SHARE ORANGE DAY WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 19, 2022
Join the Center for Safer Schools in WEAR AND SHARE ORANGE to show unity for kindness, acceptance, and inclusion and to send a visible message that no child should ever experience bullying. Uniting Through Action On the third Wednesday of October, plan to wear and share the color orange—as a tangible representation of the supportive, universal message that our society wants to prevent bullying, and is united for kindness, acceptance, and inclusion.
Mark your calendars! We will be celebrating Walk and Roll to School Day this year. Communities celebrate Walk & Roll to School Day for a variety of reasons, but safety is always at the core. This year, we will use this event to promote the importance of walking and rolling safety for the entire community. More information will follow in the upcoming weeks.
As a community, we have to come together to show appreciation for the work our educators do each day. I will always let you know about opportunities to lift up our teachers when they come up. Please consider nominating one of our outstanding educators at Turner Creek for this award.
Donating a book is a very special way to honor your child while promoting a love of reading and supporting the Turner Creek Media Center. If you would like to participate in this program, you can fill out this online form.
Our BackPack Buddies is designed to provide children experiencing food insecurity with nutritious, kid-friendly, pre-packed meals for the weekend and track outs—when they would not have access to a school’s free lunch and breakfast. If your family is in need of food support please send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org saying that you are interested, your child's name, and the number of children under the age of 18 in your household. We will send home a permission form with your student and food home on Fridays.
If you are interested in supporting this program, here is a link for our current needs:
Please bookmark our handbook. It will be a “first stop” as you have questions about the everyday operations at Turner Creek. This handbook will always be in “draft” form as we are in a world where change is the new norm. I hope it will be a good resource for you and your family.
