Principal's Message July 10, 2020
Hello Falcon Families!
I hope everyone is doing well and ready for the weekend! I am sure you have a lot of questions right now, that is normal, we do too, :) But, we are working hard at all the guidelines to consider what reopening at NFP will look like; whether a family chooses the Virtual Academy or the blended face-to-face/online option, we are committed to STAYING CONNECTED with our Falcon Families through whatever avenue families choose. We SOAR together!
Virtual Academy
Registration started today, July 10 and runs through July 20, 2020. You can read more information at the link: https://www.wcpss.net/Virtual-Academy. Over on the right hand side you can click apply. This is at least a one semester commitment, with the recommendation of a one-year commitment. Many questions have come to me regarding the schedule and times students will be expected to be online with the Virtual Academy. In the description for Virtual Academy, it states, "Students will experience a schedule and grading structure similar to their peers engaging in daily in-person or blended instruction. Instruction will be provided through a common learning platform, both recorded and live instructional session." This will be different from the spring in the aspect of grading, checking attendance, and the live instruction. In terms of definitive times, the county has not produced that yet, as I feel the framework will be based around the school's schedule, but I am waiting for my guidance on that. As I get more information, it will be shared with you.
Transportation:
The deadline to decline transportation service has been extended to Monday, July 13 at 5 p.m. https://www.wcpss.net/declinebus. If you were a bus rider last year and you are considering registering for the Virtual Academy but have not yet decided, you do not have to decline your seat at this time. If you were a bus rider and do register for the Virtual Academy, you will be automatically removed from the transportation system for the first semester of school. You will be automatically assigned to the bus again if and when schools reopen on a normal schedule with all students in the building.
Class Lists:
Please understand that right now, we are waiting to hear how many students will be attending the virtual academy before we assign class lists. The number of kids attending virtual academy and the teachers needed to teach the virtual academy have an impact on those decisions, so I appreciate your patience.
PTA News:
The PTA understands we are all trying to adapt to the changes we are now faced with and wants you to know they are committed to help support the students and staff the best they can during the 2020-2021 school year.

How does the PTA support NFP and our students? Despite not being able to be in school for the entire year, with your help, the NFP PTA was still able to give back to the students, staff and school in 2019-2020. Here are just a few things we were able to accomplish:
-
K-1 Hallway renovation, replaced stage curtains, provided lunch for staff workdays, treats and raffles for staff appreciation week, Fall Fest, Fall cultural arts music program, Angel Fund, Teacher and Grade level grants for classroom materials, Reading Curriculum Subscription and 15 iPads and covers for the media center! (Wow! Thank you to our PTA!!!!)

Thank you for choosing NFP! If you are all considering home schooling or would like to talk through the options you are considering for your family (virtual or Plan B), please reach out by email, as both Ms. Brower, AP, and I would be happy to have a conversation with you all to weigh options and talk it out. We understand the challenge your family faces at this time. We want your family to be safe and know that your child will be taken care of at NFP (virtually, face to face, online or blended). Have a wonderful weekend.
Yours,
Amy Light, Principal

Reminders:
It would be good to start familiarizing yourself and your family (our little Falcons) on the expectations of when they return to school, as it will be different than they have ever experienced before (same for us as adults). The Return to Campus Guide is a great resource to drive those conversatons. Any questions, please let me know. Specific guidelines for NFP will be sent out at a later date as decisions are still being made at this time.
