Weekly Message

Hello Lincoln Heights Families.

I hope each of you have had a chance to participate in TACO Week!  Take A Child Outside week has been so enjoyable, especially with the cooler weather.  It’s our goal that every child has time to get outside each day and enjoy nature.  Thank you to all the families that tweeted a picture of your child enjoying TACO Week.  I can't wait to see more posts this week!

Just a reminder, tomorrow is a teacher workday and there will be no online instruction.

If you listened to the school board work session last Wednesday, Superintendent Moore approved the use of three asynchronous days for teachers to prepare for the return of students to the buildings (which I am SO excited for!).  Based on this, the Southern Area Traditional Elementary Principals met and identified the next 3 Fridays as asynchronous days (Oct. 2, 9 & 16).  What does this mean?  Student learning will continue on these days using prerecorded lessons, independent tasks, Dreambox, iStation, and/or other assigned tasks.  The teachers will not be live on these days as they will be planning and preparing their classrooms for the return of the students.  This also gives parents scheduling flexibility on these three days and students will not be tied to the 8:30-11:30 online schedule.

A few quick announcements:

Kindergarten Parents:  September 30 is the deadline to submit kindergarten health assessments and immunizations.  Please submit that information to our Data Manager.

From Laura Wood, our Environmental Inquiry Integration Specialist: We hope you've enjoyed the videos about TACO Week on the website and Twitter. To go along with Take A Child Outside (TACO) week, we are excited to announce our new Explorer Backpacks that families can check out.  They include books, binoculars, bug viewers and more to help you explore the outdoors. We have 20 total, 10 focused on grades K-2 and 10 better suited for grades 3-5.  In accordance with COVID-19 cleaning recommendations, once returned, we will sanitize each item with disinfectant wipes and the backpack will be sprayed with Lysol.  The backpack will then be "quarantined" for 14 days before being checked out to the next family.  We hope that you're excited to get outside and explore nature in the cooler, fall weather.
Here is a list of local parks with an environmental or nature theme.  Hopefully, your family can find time to explore the great outdoors!

Please join the PTA!  Click here to join!  I hope all families will participate in our fall PTA Fundraiser.

I look forward to a great week ahead and appreciate your support as we GROW TOGETHER and reach #newHEIGHTS

Sincerely,

Kim Grant, Principal
