2020 8th Grade Field Trip to Washington, DC

On a chilly March 5 morning at 6:00 am around 175 Moore Square eighth graders and 50 adults departed for an overnight field trip to Washington, DC. Five hours later they arrived in our nation’s capital and visited to the Smithsonian Museum which included the National Air and Space Museum, Museum of Natural History, Museum of American History, and National Museum of African American History and Culture. The afternoon included tours of the Lincoln Memorial, Vietnam Wall, and Korean War Memorial. Following dinner at the Reagan Building, the group visited the Pentagon Memorial, US Air Force Memorial, and Jefferson Memorial, and finally crashed at the Ramada Quantico around 9:30 pm. Day 2 began with a 6 am breakfast at the hotel and then to the Arlington National Cemetery to see the Changing of the Guards at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and the Eternal Flame at President JFK’s grave. Next everyone journeyed to the World War II and Martin Luther King Jr. Memorials followed by lunch at the Washington Monument. Students concluded their trip at the United States Capitol Building with a guided tour and group photos on the Capitol Building steps. Departing the city around 3:30, everyone arrived safely back at Moore Square around 10:30 pm with a much anticipated 2-week track ahead to rest and recuperate!
