Moore Square 8th grader completes in Mandarin Chinese Competition

On Saturday, April 28 Moore Square eighth grader, Leslie Kramer, completed in the 2018 North Carolina Chinese Speech Contest at the James B. Hunt, Jr. Library at North Carolina State University in Raleigh. The Confucius Institute at NC State University sponsors the event and has had over 2525 registered to participate since their first competition in 2010. This year 441 students participated.

Leslie was one of 10 students selected as a finalist. She was selected to compete in the beginner group since she is a first-year student of Mandarin Chinese at Moore Square Magnet Middle School this year. Ya Chun Leung is her teacher and encouraged Leslie to enter the speech competition. For the beginner group Leslie randomly selected one of 12 individual pictures. She selected the "B" picture and spoke fluent Mandarin Chinese in front of everyone. We are so so so proud of her accomplishment.
