Fall First Friday was Fantastic
On the unusually warm and sunny autumn afternoon of Friday, November 3, 2017 principal, Dr. Jacqueline Jordan, and dance teacher/event planner, Nicole Duncan opened the Moore Square Magnet Middle School's First Friday event. Organized in association with the downtown Raleigh’s First Friday, Moore Square students, staff, families, and guests celebrated the wonderful learning going on at "the Square" from 4:00 - 5:30 pm. The courtyard, gym, and hallways of our downtown school were abuzz with displays, booths, and performances from various Moore Square electives and clubs. Throughout the afternoon families gathered in the courtyard to see and hear from the Vocal Ensemble singing “Hallelujah”, the Mandarin Chinese Classes in red costumes singing and reciting, fun dancing from the combined Dance II, Dance Ensemble, and Boys Hip-Hop classes, jump roping from the Rhythm & Ropes elective, the Gospel Choir’s voices singing “Revelation 19:1,” and several musical numbers by the Guitar Club.
Between performances throughout the event, guests could peruse exhibits by the Science Olympiad, Yearbook, Odyssey of the Mind, Project Lead the Way, Archery, Garden Club, Be the Man Club, Future Business Leaders, Bring Your Own Device, and Spanish classes. Student artwork was on display throughout the building and in the art classroom and archery demonstrations were conducted in the gym.
The Moore Square PTSA also displayed the entries for the PTA Reflections Student Arts Award contest along with the school winners whose entries had just been judged and winners announced earlier that day.
Kona Ice and the Chop Shop BBQ food trucks joined the festivities—parking just outside the courtyard festivities on Person Street and offering delicious food and drink choices at our school showcase event! The Moore Square first First Friday of the school year was FABULOUS!
