Fall Musical: You do not want to miss our production of SpongeBob, the musical (youth edition)! Buy your tickets online today, as they will not be sold at the door! Showtimes are- 11/3 at 6pm, 11/4 at 1pm & 6pm, 11/5 at 1pm at the Burning Coal Theatre.

Winter Sports: Boys and girls' basketball, at Ligon, will begin on November 15 from 2:30-4:30. Your child will need to have a current physical and all the paperwork uploaded to Dragonfly for them to try out. If they tried out/participated in a fall sport, their physical should still be good for the winter season. If you have any questions, please email Mr. Scheck (nscheck@wcpss.net).

Second Step: Students are starting Unit 2 which deals with recognizing bullying and harassment. Please view the letter for your child’s grade level for an overview of the specific content covered in this unit. The lessons for this upcoming week are:

6th Grade: Common Types of Bullying

Summary: In this week’s lesson, your child will discuss different types of bullying, and increase their awareness that bullying can look and feel different in each situation.

Parent Engagement Prompt: Ask your child if they have experienced bullying or negative jokes recently. Encourage them to tell you how it made them feel and let them know you’re there to support them.

7th Grade: What is Harassment?

Summary: In this week’s lesson, your child will learn how to recognize harassment and tell how it’s different from bullying.

Parent Engagement Prompt: Talk to your child about an example of harassment you heard about, or—if you’re comfortable—something you experienced. Ask your child how this is different from bullying.

8th Grade: Understanding Bullying

Summary: This week’s lesson will help your child examine common beliefs about bullying and harassment. They will begin to gain a perspective on how their opinions compare to those of others.

Parent Engagement Prompt: Ask your child what they think enables bullying and harassment. Encourage a conversation about why bullying and harassment still happens.

If you were unable to attend, please review this CDM Parent Presentation.
