School Messenger Announcement Sent 8/23/20
Hello, Moore Square Families. We’ve all made it through our first full week of school. Students have been attending their orientation classes and engaging in Google Meets with their teachers and their peers. We’ve all worked hard to start to establish our new routines. It’s been wonderful to see everyone working together to figure things out when bumps in the road happen. Your encouragement of our teachers, of the students and of each other has been inspirational.
We enjoyed seeing our families on August 13, 14, 17 and 19 for instructional supply pick up. Even though we couldn’t give you hugs and we were all wearing masks, it still felt wonderful to be together again. For anyone who still needs to pick up materials, know that we will continue to offer pickups. Our next pick up will be next Wednesday, August 26 from 2-5. Math and ELA supply bags will be available, along with art supplies if your child has an art class with Mr. Kreacic this quarter and library books from Mrs. Skinner.
Also on Wednesday, our PTSA is hosting a celebratory First Day of School Kick off before our first full day of virtual instruction on Thursday, August 27. Come drive past the school on August 26 from 1-1:30. We look forward to celebrating the start of this new year. Be ready to honk and cheer and wave!
Mrs. Skinner wants to make sure that our students are still checking out books and reading. Each Tuesday and Thursday from 1-4 she’ll be available to pass out books that students have put on “hold.” Go to the Moore Square website to find out more.
We appreciate your patience this week as teachers have been working to get attendance snafus cleared up. If you notice a discrepancy with your child’s attendance, please either have your child reach out to their teacher or send them a note. We understand that students are getting used to the new procedures…we all are. Some teachers are taking attendance during Google Meets using Google Forms so they can go back into Powerschool after teaching and enter their attendance. While this may seem like an unnecessary step for our students, we must be able to keep track of who is attending class. You may notice that there is a different code in PowerSchool for attendance based on our virtual status. Code 1R denotes “present off-site”. This code will be used to show a student has been present for virtual learning. If you have any questions, please feel free to email me (jjordan@wcpss.net).
Thank you to all who have been tuning into our Facebook Live posts each Thursday at 5 this summer. We will continue to host those events as long as we have topics that are helpful to our families. As a reminder, we post the transcripts to our website unless it’s a “Meet the Teacher” event such as the 6th grade Live last week.
Speaking of Meet the Teacher, our 7th and 8th grade teams will be sending home information soon about their events. Stay tuned.
For families who have requested a device or hot spot from WCPSS, the district will contact you once your device is ready. As a reminder, there are five distribution sites located across the county where you will go to retrieve your device, not from Moore Square. If you still need to request a device, please contact Dr. Purvis or Ms. McCaskill. They can assist you.
Please continue to tune in to the Moore Square website. This is your best place to easily find all the information you need to know. https://www.wcpss.net/mooresquarems
Again, I want to send a huge shout out to each of you. Continue to show yourselves grace. Take care of yourselves and each other and hopefully we will be back together soon. We miss you.
-Dr. Jordan
