Weekly Message for 2.14.20
As a reminder, we will have school on Monday, February 17th, to replace the day missed in the fall from the hurricane. Tuesday, February 18th is a regularly scheduled school day.
Spring pictures will be on February 20th. The 8th grade will take a class picture at 9:30 in the amphitheater. All 8th graders will be in the class picture. Individual pictures will take place in the media center at 10:00. The individual pictures are pre-pay only. Students will be sent to the media center by grade level for those pictures. Students must have either an order form or a note from home stating that pictures have been purchased online.
We do need two volunteers to help with picture day from 9:45-11:30. Please email Marla Mondora at firstname.lastname@example.org if you are able to help.
Congratulations to Mr. Hunter and good luck! Mr. Hunter is the Regional Magnet Teacher of the Year! He will attend the Magnet Schools of America Conference as finalist. We know he is a ROCKSTAR and are confident he will come home as the National Magnet Teacher of the Year! Please congratulate him and wish him luck.
We would like to remind families that, if you are coming on campus, please park in the spaced designated as “Visitor”. If no visitor spaces are available, park in the middle of the upper pad. Do not use staff parking.

Pennies for Pasta is here! Keep your loose change ready, as our homerooms all throughout the month of February will be competing to donate the most to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society to fundraise for cancer research.

We are still collecting caps for a spring art project. Keep sending in those clean caps/lids!
Class and Club News
Math 6+ students will take an assessment on proportional relationships and the constant of proportionality on Monday.
Please help the Moore Square Garden Club keep used markers, crayons, and glue stick containers out of the landfills through the Crayola Color Cycle, The Crayon Initiative. These programs collect any and all brands of these items. Families may send in these items with their students and drop them in the classroom collection boxes. The collection service is on-going throughout the school year. Please contact Mrs. Oke if you have questions about the program.
The 6th grade team would like to thank our families for their generosity. Because of your donations, 16 students were able to receive scholarships for the Myrtle Beach learning experience.
The 8th grade teacher will be holding a parent meeting for all families whose 8th grader is going on the Washington DC trip on February 27th at 5:30.
FBLA meetings will now take place every Wednesday in February as we practice for the competitive events at the State Conference. All permission slip forms to attend are past due. Payment for registration is due Monday, February 16th. Payment for the hotel is due Thursday, February 20th. There are no extensions so please make sure you adhere to the deadlines. Make checks payable to Moore Square Middle School or pay through the online school payment system. You can find all the permission forms and other information on the FBLA website under the SLC webpage. See Mrs. Somerville for questions.
Lioness Club will meet on Thursday, February 20th from 2:30-3:30 in the Media Center. All girls are welcome to attend. Please have your ride ready at 3:30.

All signed letters and permission slips for the 7th Grade Field Trip to Wilmington are due no later than Friday, February 28th. Payments for the 7th grade field trip are due no later than Friday, March 27th. Payments can be made online any day, or cash/check can be sent to school with your child on Thursdays only. Please email Ms. Cesari if you have any questions regarding the 7th grade field trip.
Students enrolled in Spanish 1 will take a field trip to The Carolina Theatre on April 23rd. The cost will be $24 and today is the last day for payment. If you have not yet paid, you can make payments online.

Counseling and Student Services News
In order to help reinforce ROAR behaviors, we will select target behaviors to focus on for a week. For the week of February 17th-21st, the focus will be on Owning Your Actions in all areas. Please make sure to work on accountability and responsibility.
If your family has recently moved and have not yet provided the school with the proof of residency for your new home immediately. This information is vital to ensure next year’s assigned school is correct.

As a reminder, students will find out which high school they will be attending on 2/19, and there will be classroom presentations covering the registration process/providing materials in the coming days.
