Weekly Message for 2.7.2020
Thank you, everyone, for your flexibility on Thursday with our impromptu early release. The students did a wonderful job adjusting to the day changing on a moment’s notice! There is no scheduled make-up day for Friday. We will utilize “banked” instructional hours for the day. We will work with our student council in rescheduling our City vs County dance that was cancelled on Friday. More information will be communicated soon.
As a reminder, we will have school on Monday, February 17th, to replace the day missed in the fall from the hurricane.
Pennies for Pasta is here! Keep your loose change ready, as our homerooms all throughout the month of February will be competing to donate the most to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society to fundraise for cancer research.

Mrs. Skinner will be accepting books in the Media Center as donations for the WAKE Up and Read Annual Book Drive. All donations should be appropriate for children birth-age 12. WAKE Up and Read cannot accept coloring books or activity books. Donations for the book drive will be accepted through February 15, 2020.
Yearbooks are on sale now through February 16th for $40. Prices go up to $45 after February 16th. Order at jostens/yearbooks.com or call 1-877-767-5217.
8th grade parents, now is the time to purchase ads in the yearbook. These are a great way to celebrate your child and your child's growth over the years.
Go to jostensadservice.com to purchase and design your advertisement. This is only available for 8th graders. Deadline for ad submissions is 2/13/20.
We are still collecting caps for a spring art project. Keep sending in those clean caps/lids!
Class and Club News
All signed letters and permission slips for the 7th Grade Field Trip to Wilmington are due no later than Friday, February 28th. Payments for the 7th grade field trip are due no later than Friday, March 27th. Payments can be made online any day, or cash/check can be sent to school with your child on Thursdays only. Please email Ms. Cesari if you have any questions regarding the 7th grade field trip.
Spring sports tryouts for boys’ and girls’ track, softball, and boys’ soccer at Ligon will begin on February 12th from 2:30-4:30. Each student will need to have a current physical on file to tryout. If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Scheck.
The Garden Club is collecting old markers of all types for the Crayola Color Cycle program. Crayola recycles all pens sent which keeps these items out of the landfill. The students are also collecting used glue stick containers. Our families are welcome to send these items in and can place them in Color Cycle collection boxes in their classrooms.
Students enrolled in Spanish 1 will take a field trip to The Carolina Theatre on April 23rd. The cost will be $24. Students will receive more information from Ms. Martinez in class.
FBLA meetings will now take place every Wednesday in February as we practice for the competitive events at the State Conference. All permission slip forms to attend due. Please return completed forms as soon as possible as your child cannot attend without them. Also, please adhere to the payment deadlines. You can find all the permission forms and other information on the FBLA website under the SLC webpage. See Mrs. Somerville for questions.
Attention 8th Graders: The final payment for the Washington DC trip is due of February 4th.

Would you like help out in the fight to end cancer? Moore Square's Student Council is rolling out our Pasta for Pennies competition for the entire month of February. Our goal is $3500, more than what we as a school have ever donated before.
But to fundraise for as much cancer research as possible, we need your help! We need chaperones, concession stand supervisors, friendly helpers, and refreshments and decor donations. See if you can assist here:
