Weekly Message for 12.13.19

General Announcements

Can you imagine, this is the last week of the fall semester! Moore Square will be closed from December 23rd through January 2nd for winter break. Classes will resume on Friday, January 3rd. While this is the last week of the quarter, it is a busy week filled with concerts, final lessons, labs, presentations and celebrations. As a reminder, report cards will be distributed to students on Friday.

Carpool Families- We have received numerous calls from concerned families about students crossing in the middle of the block and in between cars to meet their families off campus at dismissal. We ask that all students be picked up in carpool on Davie Street. If students are walking to their after-school locations, they should use the crosswalks to leave campus. At no time should students cross the street midblock or in between parked cars or those waiting in the carpool line. Safety is our first priority.

Spirit Week is this week.  Students and teachers will be dressed up for Meme Monday, Twin Tuesday, Wild Wednesday, PJ Thursday, and Festive Friday.

All students have received spelling bee word lists through their language arts classes. Please encourage your child to study these lists in preparation for the written spelling bee, to be held on Monday, December 16 through language arts classes. The participants for the 2020 oral spelling bee with be chosen from the written tests.

Our Winter Band Concert will be Tuesday at 6pm in the Enloe High School Auditorium. We appreciate Enloe’s hospitality. The Winter Orchestra Concert is on Thursday at 6pm in the Moore Square cafeteria. Please plan on coming to see our students perform.

Congratulations to the Moore Square FBLA Club, sponsored by Ms. Somerville, and the Moore Square Science Olympiad teams, coached by Mr. Hunter, who competed this weekend. Thank you to all of the parent volunteers who supported the students this weekend and in the preparation leading up to competition. More information about how the teams scored will be announced later this week.

Parents, there is now an “Honor Library” available to our students located outside the Media Center. This collection of books is available for students to take a book for a day or for forever! Mrs. Skinner would appreciate gently read donations that may be cluttering up your bookshelves.

Yearbooks are on sale now for $45. Order at jostens/yearbooks.com or call 1-877-767-5217.

8th grade parents, now is the time to purchase ads in the yearbook. These are a great way to celebrate your child and your child's growth over the years.

Go to jostensadservice.com to purchase and design your advertisement. This is only available for 8th graders. Deadline for ad submissions is 2/13/20.

PTSA News

The PTSA is excited to welcome master storyteller Donna Washington to Moore Square for our first Cultural Arts program of the year!  Ms. Washington is a professional author, storyteller, and multicultural folklorist who has been sharing stories locally and around the world for more than 30 years.  Her amazing vocal pyrotechnics and dynamic physicality make her stories come alive, and delight and enthrall audiences from four to one hundred and four.  She will perform stories geared towards our middle school audience on Wednesday, December 18, for everyone in Grades 6-8.

This program is made possible by your generous PTSA donations, and by a grant from the United Arts Council of Raleigh & Wake County.  Additional support is provided by the NC Arts Council, a division of the Department of Cultural Resources.

We thank you for your support!
