Weekly Message for 12.6.19
It is hard to believe that we are closing in on the end of the semester! We are asking that all parents and students review PowerSchool and be certain that any outstanding assignment is completed and submitted before the end of next week.
Spirit Week is the last week of school, from Dec. 16-20. Students and teachers will be dressed up for Meme Monday, Twin Tuesday, Wild Wednesday, PJ Thursday, and Festive Friday.
Thank you to all who donated to this year's Wake Relief efforts. Because of Moore Square parents and students, we donated about 600 cans/packages of food for needy families of Wake County for Thanksgiving.
Parents, there is now an “Honor Library” available to our students located outside the Media Center. This collection of books is available for students to take a book for a day or for forever! Mrs. Skinner would appreciate gently read donations that may be cluttering up your bookshelves.
Yearbooks are on sale now for $45. Order at jostens/yearbooks.com or call 1-877-767-5217.
8th grade parents, now is the time to purchase ads in the yearbook. These are a great way to celebrate your child and your child's growth over the years.
Go to jostensadservice.com to purchase and design your advertisement. This is only available for 8th graders. Deadline for ad submissions is 2/13/20.
As off campus learning experiences ramp up, we want to remind families that when we plan and pay for trips (those with a fee), we base the cost on the number of students attending the trip. We are still required to cover the cost of a student who does not attend the trip. For this reason, we will not be able to refund the cost of field trips this school year. We appreciate your understanding.
We are still collecting caps for a spring art project. Keep sending in those clean caps/lids!
Class and Club News
Be the Man has a guest speaker next Thursday. Personal Fit Coach Chris will speak to our boys about the importance of perseverance, not perfection. Any boys interested in visiting for the first time are welcome. We will be meeting from 2:20-4:30, including partaking in a free meal and exercise.
Realms of Myth will be meeting next Wednesday in Ms. Houghton's room 2218. Note that the regular meeting is shortened from 2:15 to 4:00. Parents will need to pick up their Realms of Myth students by 4:00 exactly.
FBLA meetings will now take place every Wednesday in December as we practice for the competitive events at Regional. All permission slip forms to attend Regional are now past due. Please return completed forms as soon as possible as your child cannot attend without them. You can find all permission forms and other information on the FBLA website under RCEC. See Mrs. Somerville for questions.
Counseling and Student Services News
In order to help reinforce ROAR behaviors, we will select target behaviors to focus on for a week. For the week of December 9th-13th, the focus will be on Respecting Everyone and Everything in all areas. Please make sure to work on being respectful to self, others and the building this week.
We have placed a basket in the main office for absence notes. Notes sent from home for students being absent should include the student's first and last name, dates of absences, reason for the absence, and a signature with the parent's first and last name along with the date of the note. Also, please be reminded that notes are due within 2 days of the student's return. Please do not email notes to Mrs. Harrington. Thank you for your cooperation!
Parents, if you have moved and have not formally submitted a change of address to the school, please submit one to Mrs. Harrington immediately. This information is critical for communication, transportation and school assignment. WCPSS only accepts the following as proof of address:
- Signed Purchase Contract
- Signed Closing Settlement
- Signed Lease Agreement
- Current Water Bill
- Current Electric Bill
- Current Gas Bill
Attention 8th Graders: Several Early College/Magnet High Schools will be visiting our students now through December 15th, the deadline to apply, and Mr. Wray will be gathering signatures for those interested in learning more about those schools. Just wanted to share some quick facts about these schools to provide another touch point for this information in case you missed so you and your child are informed, as well as where to locate relevant info for applying.
