Weekly Message for 11.22.19

General Announcements

This message will include information for both this coming week and the week after Thanksgiving. We will not send a weekly message at the end of this coming week. As a reminder, Moore Square will be closed Wednesday through Friday for the Thanksgiving holiday. Classes will resume on Monday, December 2nd.

Congratulations to our Dance and Choral Ensembles, as well and Ms. Duncan and Ms. Bumstead, for wonderful performances at the Tree Lighting celebration on Saturday. Both groups did wonderful job and represented our school well!

Wake Relief is a competition between our three grade levels: who can bring in the most donations for hungry Wake County families until we leave for Thanksgiving Break (Tuesday, Nov. 26th).  Please bring in canned or packaged nonperishables to the 6th, 7th, or 8th grade bins now.  The winning grade level with the most contributions in the grade level bins by Tuesday will earn the Phone privilege at lunch.

Students interested in experiencing what it is like to be a college student are invited to Be A Student Day at Duke University on November 30th. See the linked flier in English and in Spanish for more information.

Parents, there is now an “Honor Library” available to our students located outside the Media Center. This collection of books is available for students to take a book for a day or for forever! Mrs. Skinner would appreciate gently read donations that may be cluttering up your bookshelves.

Yearbooks are on sale now for $45. Order at jostens/ or call 1-877-767-5217.

8th grade parents, now is the time to purchase ads in the yearbook. These are a great way to celebrate your child and your child's growth over the years.

Go to to purchase and design your advertisement. This is only available for 8th graders. Deadline for ad submissions is 2/13/20.

As off campus learning experiences ramp up, we want to remind families that when we plan and pay for trips (those with a fee), we base the cost on the number of students attending the trip. We are still required to cover the cost of a student who does not attend the trip. For this reason, we will not be able to refund the cost of field trips this school year. We appreciate your understanding.

Magnet News

We are still collecting caps for a spring art project. Keep sending in those clean caps/lids!

Class and Club News

Moore Square’s musical theatre class, Drama Production, which takes place during 2nd period, is excited to share that we will be opening 5 new spots for the spring semester! Auditions will take place on Monday, November 25th from 2:30-3:30 pm in the theatre arts room. All forms and information can be found on Ms. Craig’s website at

The Lioness Club will meet on Thursday, December 5th from 2:30-3:30. All girls are welcome to attend. Please have your ride ready at 3:30

Math 7 Plus Parents:  Students will be starting 8th Grade Math topics when we return from Thanksgiving Break.  Students will begin with transformational geometry. Then they will be building on their understanding of proportional relationships to study linear relationships. They will learn that a linear relationship is a special relationship called a function. Students will apply their understanding of linear relationships and functions to contexts involving data with variability. We will be covering some very heavy content. Please continue to encourage your children to complete their daily homework assignments and to seek help from their teacher as needed.

FBLA meetings will now take place every Wednesday in November & December as we practice for the competitive events at Regional. All permission slip forms to attend Regional are now past due. Please return completed forms as soon as possible as your child cannot compete without them. You can find all permission forms and other information on the FBLA website under RCEC. See Mrs. Somerville for questions.

Counseling and Student Services News

In order to help reinforce ROAR behaviors, we will select target behaviors to focus on for a week. For the week of December 2nd-6th, the focus will be on Remaining Safe in all areas.  Please make sure to work on being safe this week.

We have placed a basket in the main office for absence notes. Notes sent from home for students being absent should include the student's first and last name, dates of absences, reason for the absence, and a signature with the parent's first and last name along with the date of the note. Also, please be reminded that notes are due within 2 days of the student's return. Please do not email notes to Mrs. Harrington. Thank you for your cooperation!

Parents, if you have moved and have not formally submitted a change of address to the school, please submit one to Mrs. Harrington immediately. This information is critical for communication, transportation and school assignment. WCPSS only accepts the following as proof of address:

  • Signed Purchase Contract
  • Signed Closing Settlement
  • Signed Lease Agreement
  • Current Water Bill
  • Current Electric Bill
  • Current Gas Bill

Attention 8th Graders: Several Early College/Magnet High Schools will be visiting our students now through December 15th, the deadline to apply, and Mr. Wray will be gathering signatures for those interested in learning more about those schools. Just wanted to share some quick facts about these schools to provide another touch point for this information in case you missed so you and your child are informed, as well as where to locate relevant info for applying.
