Weekly Message for 11.8.19
Moore Square 7th graders had the privilege of hearing from veterans during Social Studies on Friday. To those who came to speak, thank you for sharing your story with our students. Thank you to all veterans, active duty members and those in the reserves for your service and sacrifice. We appreciate you and hold you and your families close.
Did you attend our First Friday event? We would like your feedback. Please consider taking this brief anonymous survey if you have not done so already! First Friday 11/1/19 FEEDBACK.
Parents we are hosting a Family Academy on Wednesday, November 13th from 6:00-7:30. Dinner will be served at 5:30 (slice of pizza, fruit side, and cookie). The purpose of the Family Academy program is to provide families with the necessary academic tools to support the success of their child’s education and to bring schools, parents/guardians, families, and community organizations together as equal partners. The topics for this quarter are Developing Good Homework Habits and Ways to Help Your Child Develop Organizational Skills. Please see the link for more information and to register to attend. https://bit.ly/2Pig5Cq
Any students interested in participating in Moore Square's Student Equity Team may submit applications now through November 12 at http://bit.ly/2Equity
Wake Relief is a time to donate as much food to the hungry families of Wake County. Our annual canned food drive will be coordinated from November 18th-22nd. Please get non-perishables in cans and packages ready to donate for your grade level later this month. The week before Thanksgiving, we'll try to donate as much to Wake Relief as we can as a school.
Carolina Ballet is once again offering special rates for students and their families to attend selected performances. Please note that all order forms are due back to our Box Office by Monday, November 11. If you have any questions, please contact the Box Office at 919.719.0900.
Parents, there is now an “Honor Library” available to our students located outside the Media Center. This collection of books is available for students to take a book for a day or for forever! Mrs. Skinner would appreciate gently read donations that may be cluttering up your bookshelves.
Do you recycle? Do you know the real value in recycling? Not only does it save energy and reduce waste and emissions, it can generate money for our school. We are partnering with “CRUSH IT! Recycling for Schools” to boost recycling of aluminum and to boost PTSA funds.
How does it work? Simply collect your empty and rinsed aluminum cans and bottles and rather than put them out on the street for recycling or putting them in the trash, bring them into school and drop them in the new CRUSH IT! Recycling bins on your way to 1st period. Don’t just collect from your home, ask your family and neighbors for their aluminum cans too. All collected cans will then be taken to a recycling center and converted to school funds for the PTSA. We will be collecting for new school items throughout the year. Our first challenge is underway. So, take on the challenge, it’s easy...collect all those aluminum cans and bottles and bring them in each week and together we can save energy, reduce waste and boost our PTSA fund.
Does your student like staying active? Does your student like counting their steps on a digital wristband? Do they like achieving goals? Then, have a say in the PowerPlay. The PowerPlay is back, sponsored by the Carolina Hurricanes to encourage community-wide fitness, in which middle school students log the times they commit to exercise between now and November 15. Individual students are invited to exercise at least 60 minutes outside the classroom each day. Students may log their exercise times by signing into their Wake ID portal and clicking the PowerPlay icon. As students reach the individual goal of 1,200 minutes or 20 hours of exercise, they will be rewarded with two free tickets to a Carolina Hurricanes game.

As off campus learning experiences ramp up, we want to remind families that when we plan and pay for trips (those with a fee), we base the cost on the number of students attending the trip. We are still required to cover the cost of a student who does not attend the trip. For this reason, we will not be able to refund the cost of field trips this school year. We appreciate your understanding.
Support a cool future art project for Moore Square students AND "Reduce, Reuse, & Recycle"...Keep sending in those plastic bottle caps!
